Lone parents

Pat on the back thread

Excuse me for being self-indulgent, but seeing as my ex H or his parents can't be arsed to text me to see how we're doing (and none of them have bothered to acknowledge a photo I sent them of our 3 year old DD playing in snow up to her knees outside our house) I would like to say to myself how proud I am of coping in this weather; I've not been at work at all this week and the first adults I've talked with face to face since Monday afternoon (other than the lovely people in my local shops) were my parents when they managed to get over to my house today (it took them an hour and they only live 5 mins away by train!).

During this week I have entertained DD, cooked all sorts of different meals to try to keep it varied, baked cakes, and struggled up the hill and back down again with DD and my trusty old rucksack to get food in. I have kept DD warm, comfortable, mostly happy and content - and without always resorting to putting on CBeebies to entertain her Smile

So I am giving myself a big pat on the back because far too often I get overwhelmed and stressed by juggling everything and forget to acknowledge to myself when I get the fundamentals right. Without wishing this to sound patronising, I would like to say well done to all of you who have also struggled this week, for all sorts of reasons weather-related or not, and I hope you are able to relax a bit tonight and also pat yourselves on the back.

A good thread! Glad you coped so well - not easy is it, especially when you're cooped up indoors for so long. Tbh I'm knackered & have a banging headache, so have just consoled myself with a fresh cream eclair.

A pat on the back from me too. There should be more pats on the back for every mum, we usually don't get the praise we deserve, single mums especially.
