My year 2 (just turned 7yr old) has really enjoyed all the homeschool history podcasts. He’s finished them all and I think repeat listened to them too! He’s also listened to all of the big life kids podcast (which teaches growth mindset). He’s also worked his way through a lot of the horrible histories ones.

Can anyone recommend anything else similar or suitable for his age? He has specifically requested a learn french one. It would have to be absolute basics because he hasn’t done any french before. But failing that I think he’s enjoy anything sciency.

"You're Dead to me," is a radio 4 history podcast for grownups but totally ok for kids. Done by "chief nerd" of horrible histories

Thanks, my older child has discovered you’re dead to me, my 7 year old won’t get the humour I don’t think. I think it’s a bit advanced for him!

You could try the Duolingo app for French.

@despondentatwork both my boys have old hand-me-down iPhones with no SIM cards that they can use at home on the WiFi so they use the podcasts app on those.

The Classic FM app (which I downloaded to my phone and tablet) has a great selection of podcasts and the ones my kids liked are:

  • David Walliams' Marvellous Musical Podcast
  • The Week Junior Show
  • Fierce Girls
  • Story Pirates
  • Tumble Science Podcast for Kids

(as well as Homeschool History.)

We had some very long car journeys across the UK last summer and I downloaded hours of these and they were all so quiet for these journeys! I mean IMO they're lovely kids but I was still shocked by how easy the journeys were!
