Lockdown learning - not just for kids?

I feel that I’d like to learn a new skill to do something during this period of enforced stayathomeism. I can’t think what though. I jokingly told DH that I was going to learn mandarin! My usual hobbies can’t really be done in the house - research and sketches - but I don’t have a blowtorch!

Is anyone else planning to brush up on a skill or learn something new?

Why not Mandarin if that's what interest you? It could be anything really. Sewing or knitting? Baking/cooking? Any other language?

I think homeschooling is a new skill in itself

I am so hopeless at languages (so it was a bit of a jokey suggestion!) - I’m much better with my hands!

I’d like to at least be able to look back and say ‘I learned/did that during that period’.

I'd love to learn a language.

My boyfriend is teaching me some Swedish, in return I’m teaching him some Urdu.

I’m doing some online courses - excel and some other work related things.

I’m using my daily exercise to do couch to 5k

I'm:

1. using duolingo to learn Spanish

1. Using an app (free) called Yousician to learn to sing in tune

1. Doing Joe Wicks 9am exercise class on YouTube each day

1. Completing a paint by numbers picture

I'm terrible at all of these btw

I'm trying out new recipes and keeping on top of washing up and housework, ideally I do some open learning courses and so on but it's not happening.

I've been learning a language with Duolingo for the past couple of months, so am continuing that.

Am a keen crocheter and would love to learn how to do some basic knitting.

Have a couple of sewing projects to do if I can get to grips with my machine

italki.com is a good platform to find online language teachers /language exchange partners. For a whole host of languages!

memrise.com is good, particularly so for supporting recognition and recall of Mandarin Chinese characters when you start to learn to read them. 加油!
