My primary age child has work send via an app with communication with teacher via chat when needed.

Being sent 3 items of work a day and also have printed work sheets etc...

Older DC are told to log into an app. They've had 1 piece of work in days.

I honestly don't know what to do to get them work. Had no I for in where to go etc..

To be honest your job here is keep your children alive. There are plenty of apps and sites they could explore but the most important thing is that they are safe at home.

Set them a history project? BBC Bitesize has plenty of things but I'd not worry too much.

How old are they? DS(15) has a normal school day just not in school! Timetable is the same, and gets homework. All set by school

There are other things they can do? Put a wash in, hang washing out. Dishwasher, hoover and clean floors. We are 11 days in and have a routine of sorts. With much resistance of course.
Hopefully more work will come as time goes on

How old are they. My 13 year old is getting five lessons a day on show my homework.

My 16 year old is in year 11 so had gone from revision every night to having no focus at all. So far she's just been tidying her room and sorting out all of her school books but she's going to do some research on her A level choices. For example she's doing RE/philosophy so she's goi go to do what she's calling a project on Buddhism and she's never studied the tudors but she's quite interested in it so she's going to look at that.

TBF if they are secondary school age they should be motivated and capable enough of working independently unless in year 7 or possibly year 8. However, if the Secondary School really isn't sending out enough work to occupy them then by all means you can still contact the school. Admin staff are still in and available at schools even if working remotely. My teen DC go to different schools i have no idea what work has been set for them but they both quietly and independently seem to be getting on with it. Both schools send generic emails out most days asking parents to contact school if their child/teen has any problems accessing any work or platforms etc. I am WFH and ask my children what they are working on from time to time DS will usually tell me unless he is in the middle of something whereas DD bites my head off.

Lol at motivated and capable of working independently... my yr13 is. My yr7 is getting on with stuff I’ve found for him to do.

But my yr10? Hah! School subscribe to a website that does lots of little videos and they’ve given him playlists of videos. He cannot spend a whole school day watching information videos. This time will be a 5th of his gcse courses and he’s somehow supposed to learn all the material by passively watching a screen. I’m hoping they set some assignments soon.

See what your local library/museum/gallery etc are offering digitally or ask them to make a list of things they want to achieve before their next birthday then make a plan to do it. Education doesn’t always have to be traditional as long as they are learning in some way and keeping their minds active.

I'm a secondary teacher and I'm setting work for each lesson via Show My Homework- it is a bit scraped together this week as this is very short notice, so it has sometimes been things like "Watch this video, answer these questions".

If you're not getting anything set, email the school and get your children to email individual teachers if they can too.

In the meantime senecalearning.com is a great free website with revision activities for nearly every exam board/gcse course. They also do KS3 activities (and KS2). Twinkl are also offering a month's free membership and have worksheets for nearly every topic!

BBC bitesize is really good.
You should hopefully get more work and instructions soon but schools are really busy setting everybody work and having many staff off sick or still in charge of children of key workers. I didn't have much from my DDs school but today I've had a lot more so it looks like they are getting on top of it now.
Make sure your DCs didn't have letters to bring home as we had some instructions on what would happen and when.

Please remember that until yesterday afternoon most teachers were still in school. Today I am setting lessons for this week and I have already had ranty emails from parents asking for work. We are doing our best under huge strain and also having to go into school to look after key worker kids. Use the resources linked to and give it a day or so before you go in guns blazing .

Corbett Maths is great!

We’ve done some maths topic set by the school but also Corbett Maths is great! We go into 5 a day just pick the date! Best thing is the answers are on there too!

Our school have set some work but so far the online learning site doesn't work too well as is very easy so we're only using that a bit. It is very hard so I feel for you (mine are the same age). We are following the kids timetable and sticking to the normal school hours. DS13 is mainly working in the kitchen with me and DD15 is working more in her room although I check on her regularly. She is doing video calls with friends doing the same subject so it feels more like a classroom (not all lessons, about 2 a day). The teachers are working hard to put more stuff online and we are topping up with seneca, hegarty maths, mr bruff videos and various videos and documentaries. We also have lots of study and revision guides for subjects which are great to work through - you might be able to get some from Amazon? Also doing bits of cooking and exercise to fill time.
