Wondering how to make sure young DC get enough exercise?(12 Posts)
Two under 5’s, we have some play equipment in the garden but am also looking for ways to get them to do some exercise indoors in the event of a lockdown/self isolation. Our house is not very big so nothing that involves big equipment! Does anyone have any suggestions for activities or exercise videos my DH and I could do with them? Thanks
I live in a tiny 2 bed flat on the second floor and I am thinking the same thing.
The only thing I could do is put on youtube exercise videos for children and get them to work out to them.
They could also run up and down the corridor I suppose.
The kids I teach like cosmic yoga videos on YouTube.
A few ideas, which may be obvious: do things like races, time them running to a wall or something. Assault course inside or outside. Skipping if they can manage it. Dodgeball, football or any ball game in the garden, piggy in the middle, tag etc. YouTube yoga, try cosmic yoga for kids, it’s fab. Dancing, just play any music they like and make it extra fun with musical statues. Simon says with lots of jumping! Get them to copy you doing exercises like squats etc.
Tell them a story and act it out, we’re going on a bear hunt world well for this!
It’s really hard though!
How’s it looking now we’re in April? We came up with a load of ideas when I lived in a flat without a garden, heavily pregnant! Hope these help. My favourite is the active dice game. “Wiggle like a Catapiller” when you roll 3, “spin like a helicopter” on 1 etc

Put some music on and dance around the house like crazy.
Play musical statues - could challenge chn to freeze by balancing on 3 body parts/1 body part/on 2 arms and bottom etc.
Play 'the floor is lava' game in the living room/create an indoor obstacle course.
Got any balloons? Play keepy uppy with the balloon/don't let it touch the floor.
Introduce them to the vacuum and get them involved in cleaning the house!!!
Play 'The Bean Game' - call out a bean and they move on the spot as that bean. E. G. Jelly bean, runner bean, baked bean (curled up in a ball), French bean (saying oh la la and posing with hand on hip), jumping bean, broad bean (stretch wide) - any any other beans you can think of/make up.
Pirates - give instruction for them to follow e. G. climb the rigging, scrub the deck, walk the plank etc and any other you can think of or make up
Relabel a dice with different actions so when you roll it you have to do the action it lands it.
If they like dancing then The Ballet Coach on YouTube/ Facebook does a little ones class 4x a week. My 3 and 5 year old love it.

Do you live near a park or not? If so you could take young DC on a walk there. My young twin children love dancing. They also love walking as well. I also recently ordered a hula hoop and skipping rope online from Amazon to use at home too. Joe Wicks is good too, check him out.
If you have a trampoline at home, you could use that. I hope that this is useful. At lunchtime I have a star jumping contest for exercise. I look crazy but who cares? No one sees me do it. I too live in a tiny flat in a apartment building. Hopscotch is good. Another active game is Mr Wolf.
Search for exercise videos on YouTube. Additionally you could try gentle exercise. Teach your kids how to do squats, pushups etc indoors in the living room. Or what about a early morning brisk walk around the block? Pilates, yoga and tai chi are all other good options. See if you can find a online exercise class.
