Hello ...... is there anyone there?

Shall we try a roll call to see who's about?

I'm muddy, two DD 3 & 6, work part-time. I've lived in Shropshire for about 14 years and love it.

Yes, I'm here. I'm just setting everything up to become the new Local Editor for Mumsnet Local Shropshire. I'm looking for lots of other Mumsnetters to join me. I want to make this site interesting and full of relevant and useful info for us all in Shropshire.

We've got so many resources here and so much stuff to do. I've lived here most of my life, give or take a few years and I love the place. Let's get the ball rolling. I'm going to spend the next few weeks filling the site with info about Shropshire. I would also like to organise a Meet Up really soon when I have collected enough Mumsnetters...

Is there anyone/ anything that you feel really needs mentioning on this site? Good schools, child care or anything that you think needs publicising? Please let me know.

Do you know any other Mumsnetters in RL? Please tell them that the site will soon be filled with vital stuff that they need to know.

Also please start following the site on Twitter and Facebook; the more, the merrier.... smile

I am here! I am in N Shropshire. I have a DD who is 5.

It would be great to list the things to do for free/v little to make the pennies stretch.

eg paddling at Inwood or Ashes Hollow, Rectory woods all in Church Stretton, the grounds of Craven Arms Discovery Centre, good walks for small children etc. the walk up to Bury Ditches or Mitchel's fold if you are out Bishops Castle way.

As you may be able to tell, muddy by name, muddy (or wet) by nature ....

Fordhall Farm near Market Drayton is lovely to have a wander around. There is also a nice tearoom there!

Up the Wrekin and straight down the other side.

Dearnford Lake (Whitchurch)has a lake, little park and a lovely cafe!

Localeditorshropshire Wed 02-Oct-13 20:53:47

Ellesmere is always nice for a wander; you can buy the seed to feed the birds with too if you are feeling brave. There always seems to be at least one goose that rips the bag open though.

Grinshill is great if you've got the stamina for it. I know that you have to pay to get into Attingham but I think that's my favourite place for a walk with my kids. Was thinking of Attingham for inaugural Mumsnet Local meet up. Any other ideas?

Thanks for your suggestions so far ladies.

ThingsgoBumpinthenight Wed 02-Oct-13 22:50:35

Attingham is lovely!

We also like Cannock Chase but unfortunately that isn't in Shropshire!

muddyfeet Fri 04-Oct-13 10:00:44

Whittington castle is a favorite of ours out towards oswestry.

muddyfeet Fri 04-Oct-13 10:02:36

Or Moreton Corbett castle near shawbury.

Hi all, I'm here!. . . or at least I will be soon! Planning to relocate to Shrewsbury before we have our first. (Due December, arrgghh getting close!!)
We're both from the midlands originally, with DP having grown up in shrews and all his family living there/here. Can't wait to move as from visits over the past year or so it seems like a lovely place to live.
Thanks for all the posts about things to do and places to see, it'll be great to have things in mind for when we're moved and settled and have a little one to entertain.
I'm the first of my friends to have children so not got a lot of people that I can talk to about being pregnant etc, would be nice to make a few friends on here smile

Hello all. I'm busy beavering away and trying to put lots of info on the site for everyone to benefit from. At the moment I'm inputting lots of half term activities as there are absolutely loads of things to do in our county. I'd love to see some more people joining in on this thread. Please post if you are

A good day for me and DP as we've had our application accepted on a house to rent in Shrews. Feels like such a relief to finally have a moving date in place and know we're one step closer to getting organised.

Hi neeny, I don't have family locally but found Shrewsbury to be quite baby friendly when I had my first and was desperate to get out and about. Sure start drop ins are a good start and all over town, there is a mothers and co. get together on Mondays in the downstairs room at the Shrewsbury Coffee House which has quite alternative/earth mothery leanings if you are into that and I think bumps and babes are still running (nct) though not sure where.

ps we moved 4 weeks before dd1 was born, go easy, its exhausting.

muddyfeet Mon 14-Oct-13 22:22:41

Hi local, I'm not ignoring your message I just can't get pm to reply.

neenymints Tue 15-Oct-13 15:46:13

Cheers muddyfeet some helpful pointers. Looking forward to getting there now. It will be 4 weeks to go for us when we move too so I've declared myself official supervisor and tea maker and won't be over doing it.

JustEatIt Wed 16-Oct-13 11:45:02

Hi all, and thanks to the local ed for directing me back here. I'm in North Shropshire and have a 3yo and an 8 month old. About to return to work. Neeny, I moved just before having DD1 and 10 days after DD2 - it will be fine! smile

StetsonsAreCool Sun 20-Oct-13 22:08:27

Hi everyone. This is the first time I've been in Local since it was tarted up!

I live in Shrewsbury with my DH and our DD who's 3.4.

Neeny, friends of ours moved from Shrewsbury to Telford about a fortnight before their DD was born. Luckily she was a little bit late and gave them time to unpack. Definitely go easy on yourself!

I'd be up for a meetup. Last one I went to was when DD was tiny (green pushchair, stripy blanket lady at the Quarry, if any of you were there and have namechanged)

Attingham is great - lots of muddy puddles for small people to jump in. I do work ft though, so unless it's a weekend thing I probably won't be able to make it.

Anyway, just saying hi. Will make sure to check in here often now I know you're here smile

Localeditorshropshire Mon 21-Oct-13 18:01:20

Thanks stetsons great to know there is another voice out there in the wilderness. Perhaps we should do the meet up on a Saturday morning? Maybe that might suit everyone better?

StetsonsAreCool Sat 26-Oct-13 23:36:02

A Saturday morning would be perfect for us. Would be nice to meet some other locals!

Localeditorshropshire Sun 27-Oct-13 16:28:42

Hi all, shall we say 16th November for first meet-up?

rexymemopey Tue 29-Oct-13 18:11:26

Can I mention another parenting group - Acorns to Oaks (also on Facebook) veers towards gentle parenting but is open to all. Run by a trainee babywearing consultant. Meets monthly on the third Thursday of the month at Meole Brace Surestart 09:30-11:30. Very friendly bunch of parents.

halfwildlingwoman Wed 30-Oct-13 15:40:06

Hi, I'm in South Shropshire, have two DC aged 6 and 4. Just checking in!

Thisvehicleisreversing Wed 06-Nov-13 11:16:12

Hi all, I'm a Shrewsbury girl born and bred.

I'm 33 and live in the north of the town with DH and our 2 DS's age 12 and 8.

Hopefully I'll be at the meet up smile

Localeditorshropshire Wed 06-Nov-13 12:51:30

Hi Thisvehicle, look forward to meeting you on the 16th. If you look on meet ups you will see that Shrewsbury is now an active meet up group and you can add your name to the list for any further meet ups if you can't make this one.
