You might want to know that as of the 20th January

"Network Rail will start essential maintenance works to the High Level Railway Bridge and footpath above Royal Engineers’ Way and the River Medway in Maidstone. The work will take up to 3 months, starting with scaffolding which will take 4-5 weeks to build. The footpath will remain open most of the time but when the scaffolding is complete the width of the footpath will be reduced to about 1.5m and a 30m section over the river will be covered.

At some point during the works the footpath will be closed for a short time for resurfacing. We will let you know as soon as we are informed of the date and duration of the closure."

from the Maidstone Borough Council Facebook page

I just thought I'd let people know to watch out for the closure dates as it will make the journey to school/train stations longer for quite a few people and I only knew to look thanks to another parent mentioning it on the school run yesterday.
