What is a Children's Centre?
Children’s centres offer the best start in life for every child. They provide information and services for families with young children aged 0-5 years. In Hertfordshire there will be 89 centres, 6 of which are based in the Watford area. Each centre has approx 800 families in their patch.

By visiting your local children’s centre, you will receive support and help in finding childcare, family support, health services and even employment advice. Many children’s centres will have a day nursery on site, or very close by, providing childcare from 8am – 6pm and will also have links with local childminders. If you are looking for day care as a working parent, the centre will be able to give you information about the options for you and your child.
Each local centre will offer additional services that suit local needs such as:
o A Toy Library where you can borrow toys and equipment for your child
o Breast feeding drop-in clinics
o Toddler clubs and baby stay & play groups
o Ante-natal clinics and Baby massage sessions
o Parenting workshops, and fun family learning activities.

Leavesden Children's Centre is based in the ground of Leavesden Green JMI & Nursery School. We have a new entrance in the High road just before the pedestrian traffic light crossing. Although we have only have parking on site for those with disabilities, there is a free car park in Haines Way, (less than a 5 minute walk away). We are also well served by local buses. On site we have baby changing facilities, free access to PCs/ the web, a family room, meeting and training spaces, and a baby room. We are completely accessible for those with mobility issues.
The was centre opened in October 2007 by the Mayor Dorothy Thornhill, Claire Ward MP and local councillors Ellie Burkinshaw, and Ian Brown.

“It’s been a long hard slog but now we are open and ready to help families in Leavesden. The centre is a lovely vibrant place to work, we have families popping in to make friends, and have fun at the sessions. Many mums just want to see the centre and find out what's happening, and luckily there is plenty to keep the whole family occupied. We are hoping to start attracting some dads and grandparents to visit as you are important too!”

Please contact the centres if you have any questions, we are here to help! {grin}
