Braintree District Museum’s Education Department is looking to recruit new freelance staff to join its dynamic team. The department offers a number of themed days for schools focused around object handling, guided gallery visits and drama focused sessions, as well as providing a range of adult education options.

The roles being advertised offer flexible working on a freelance basis and the workshops mostly take place between 10am and 2pm. The roles also offer the opportunity to discover more about local history and the Museum’s collections.

Two types of role are currently being advertised:

Roleplay Teachers – We are looking for experienced teachers to join our pool of freelance staff in delivering roleplay educational sessions for KS1 and KS2 pupils. The successful candidate will prepare and deliver one hour education workshops and must be comfortable to do so whilst roleplaying as a Victorian or 1940s teacher in costume. Current topics include the Victorian period and WWII evacuees but new themes may also be added in the future. Rate of pay £25 per hour, freelance

Object Handlers – We are looking for enthusiastic communicators who are excited by the thought of working with the Museum’s handling collections to inspire young people with an interest in the past. The successful candidate will deliver educational sessions for school visits from our existing range of topics, and there will also be the opportunity to develop content for existing and new sessions. Current topics include Stone Age to Iron Age; Anglo Saxons; Middle Ages; Victorians; WWI and WWII and natural history. Rate of pay £10 per hour, freelance
