Anyone fancy a Mid Essex meet up?

I know that there are quite a few Mid Essex MNers around, but so far we've struggled to meet up.

I was wondering if anybody fancies meeting for a picnic in Central Park in Chelmsford?

We could do a weekday, or a weekend depending on what suits everyone best. It would be lovely if we could arrange it during the summer holiday - which is not far off now.

I'd be bringing my 7yo DD and 3yo DS.

Please let me know what you think.

Has to be half term or a weekend for me sorry as ds is at school and I work all but holidays.
Haven't found it too busy during the day time for shrik week when we've been before. I think the colder weather keeps the less determined away. It is busier in the evenings though, with all the spooky stuff they have on.

Our gold cards are about to run out, so we're peobably going to go either sat 22nd or sun 23rd. Half term is getting really booked up for us though!

/me bumps the thread a bit

We are also thinking of a trip to Colchester Zoo soon, although that will probably be on a weekday and not in the half term so things are a little quieter (I've still got a day or so vacation to use).

So are ther eany plans for a half term meet up? Our half term is getting filled up already!
We'll be heading to colchester zoo one of the days, probably one of the weekends either side of it, if anyone else fancied that..?

We could meet up if there are any plans for similar activities in future (little one is 11mo).

I know this thread has been a little quiet recently; but we have discovered a couple more potential meet locations.

Oaklands Park, Chelmsford - has a nice childrens play area with plenty of seats around the main play area and a reasonable picnic areas. Also there is the essex regiment museum for older children. There are public toilets on site and free car parking for probably 20 or 30 cars.

We also discovered Lake Meadows in Billericay. This has a largish play area with wide range of equipment and you can feed the ducks! There is a cafe and toilets on site. (Mostly) free car parking there too - there is chargeable period over lunchtime. Not too far from the rail station either.

I also noted that the Waterhouse Lane car park in Chelmsford is also free on Saturday and Sundays. It's only a short walk to central park too!

I've just started a new thread about meeting up in Maldon soon.

TIA.

Hello, he's feeling better now, thanks. I am the poster formerly known as Fox smile

It's turned out to be just a minor cold and about twelvety-million teeth all popping through at the same time, poor sausage. Took me till 9.30 to get him to go down tonight!

I'm away on the Bank Holiday weekend - but we can still organise something if it's a popular choice.

Think I'll start a new thread and link to it here.

gillybean2 Thu 28-Jul-11 08:29:51

Hiya

We had a lovely time, thanks so much for organising it.
And thank you for your kind comments about ds, I have past them on to him. He can be a star sometimes with little ones and he loves having company.

Your LO is lovely too. I hope dd enjoyed her pamper day and maybe we'll get to meet her next time.

Do you think it's too soon to organise something for the end of the school hols? Are people busy on the bank holiday weekend or would that be an option possibly?

TsaMidEssex Wed 27-Jul-11 21:41:43

Oops - sorry blush. Brain not in gear after falling asleep during bedtime settling.

Bohica Wed 27-Jul-11 21:37:43

That was Fox's son that is unwell, I have 3 unruly lovely girls.

TsaMidEssex Wed 27-Jul-11 21:16:21

How is your DS today Bohica? Feeling any better?

Bohica Wed 27-Jul-11 20:37:48

Glad the mini meet up went well, I did think of you today!

TsaMidEssex Wed 27-Jul-11 16:20:32

Just got back from my first ever MN meet up. It was a very, very mini meet up but still fun. Even the weather was kind grin.

Gilly, my DS thinks your DS is fab - he was so kind and tolerant. It was lovely to meet you too.

TsaMidEssex Tue 26-Jul-11 22:05:44

That's a shame sad. I hope your DS feels better soon.

Nomdujour Tue 26-Jul-11 21:59:34

Hello, Fox here under my new name <twirls>

I'm afraid things are not looking good for tomorrow here - ds has a temp and I think he's coming down with the lurgy sad

TsaMidEssex Tue 26-Jul-11 19:16:38

Hi Gillybean2 - I've sent you a PM.

I think the back up plan will be to still meet in the park at noon - but retire to a cafe if the weather is diabolical.

Looking forward to meeting you.

gillybean2 Tue 26-Jul-11 17:39:23

We're still on track to be there. Have PM you as am wondering who I should ask for when approaching random starngers on tartan picnic blankets.

Also wondering if there are any alternative plans should the weather not be favourable to picnicing!?

TsaMidEssex Sat 23-Jul-11 18:48:40

No problem - I hope we get to meet next time smile.

Bohica Sat 23-Jul-11 17:16:02

Hello, I can't do the 27th because I don't finish work until 2.30 & then I need to drive to Bicknacre & South woodham ferrers before I could drive back to Chelmsford!!

Keep me informed if you arrange a weekend meet up though!3

Thanks for the reminder message Tsa.

TsaMidEssex Sat 23-Jul-11 00:08:57

I love Hylands House (fond memories), so will add it to the (rather short) list.

Glad you can make it TheSnickeringFox - cake sounds very good grin.

TheSnickeringFox Fri 22-Jul-11 23:17:14

Hi all, yes we can do the 27th. Thanks to gilly for the reminder to look at this thread!

I will bring cake smile

liamsdaddy Fri 22-Jul-11 20:51:41

TsaRina - you are doing great smile

I know how frustrating it can be to organise something and for only one or two people to come along.

Quite a few of our friends favour Hylands House as a good place to meet up - we have not tried it yet.

TsaMidEssex Fri 22-Jul-11 16:27:06

liamsdaddy - thanks for your points.

What I wanted to do is get something arranged quickly - just as a start point. I know how easy it is for time to pass while trying to arrange the 'perfect' event.

gillybean has suggested a meet in Maldon at the end of the summer, so perhaps we'll be able to have a rolling series of events lined up at different times/venues to include as many families as possible. If you have the idea for a meet up (time/place etc) - let me know and I can try and make sure it happens.

As you say - it's going to take time.

liamsdaddy Fri 22-Jul-11 14:43:45

Post 12 noon isn’t really best for us, 10am into lunchtime would be far better as that fits into DS’s current sleep cycle. Give it 6 months and possibly that will change as he seems to be shortening his naps more regularly now.

There are additional complications for us anyway; my DW has damaged tendons in both her feet and an active 2 yr old DS already pushes her feet to their limit. Central park is quite a bit of a trek from the nearest car park that is likely to have spaces on a workday (and I'm not available to her to act as DS chaser/chauffeur on a weekday).

I’d still go for it as planned if I was you – Mid Essex has been so quiet that in the past I’ve only been checking the forum on a monthly basis. It’s going to take some time to build the traffic back up.
