We've been hearing a lot about The Beckenham Academy in recent months. There's a huge amount of interest in this new school and the impact it will have on secondary provision and catchment zones in the Beckenham area. The permanent location for the school was recently announced, ending weeks of speculation. Here's the notice in full:

Education for the 21st Century (E21C), purchases site for The Beckenham Academy

E21C is pleased to announce it has completed on the purchase of a permanent site for The Beckenham Academy (TBA), the new secondary free school for Beckenham.

The eagerly awaited location can now be confirmed as Balmoral Avenue, Beckenham. Located near to Elmers End and Eden Park train stations in Beckenham, the location is ideal for students living in and around the north of Beckenham.

Previously owned by The Co-operative Group, the land has been acquired by Education for the 21st Century, (E21C), the Multi-academy Trust of which The Beckenham Academy is a member school. Whilst planning permission is being sought for the construction of the new building, students can look forward to beginning their TBA school life within The Ravensbourne School (TRS), where the September 2016 Year 7 intake will be based. While students are based at TRS, free transport will be provided both before and after school for those living around the Beckenham area.

TBA is a mixed secondary school that is being created to help cope with the extra demand for schooling in the Bromley Borough by 2020. The school will have an initial intake of 180 Year 7 students in 2016. Construction of the school is expected to be complete by 2018.

Paul Murphy, CEO at Multi-academy Trust, E21C, comments: “We’re really excited to announce the purchase of our new site in Balmoral Avenue. Parents and students of The Beckenham Academy have had to be very patient in waiting for the location to be confirmed while the legal processes were dealt with, which we really appreciate it. The location offers a fantastic space for a new school and we cannot wait to begin building it for our students.”

Emily Codling, Headteacher for The Beckenham Academy, says: “As headteacher of TBA, it’s fantastic news that we can now inform all our students and their parents about the proposed permanent location for our school in Beckenham. The deadline for applications for next year’s intake has passed and we’ve been overwhelmed by the number of applicants we’ve had. All the teaching staff at TBA are really excited about meeting our first intake of students.“

For all questions or queries relating to the planning process please email E21C on planning@e21c.co.uk, or submit them in writing to Ms Sarah Whitten at The Ravensbourne School, Hayes Lane, Bromley, BR29EH.

About E21C

Education for the 21st Century was established in 2011 as a multi-Academy Trust. All the Directors have clear and long lasting commitment to the education of young people and they are prepared to operate effectively to the benefit of the Trust’s school, their students, their staff, their parents and the wider local education community within South East London.

At the heart of the Trust’s philosophy is the importance of the ‘whole child’ rather than just their academic achievement: results are important but the Trust also focuses on the soft skills which will help each student set up for their life beyond school.

We also believe that collaboration, partnership, professional growth though professional debates are best served when the participants are geographically close and taken from a wide variety of situations. For this reason, our aim is to work within the Borough of Bromley at both Primary and Secondary level not only to maintain Bromley’s reputation but also to enhance the area even further.
