Working in Brighton, commuting from London- Advice please!

I have just accepted a job at Roedean school. I will be commuting by train from London and ironically the hardest part of the journey is the last four miles from Brighton station to the school.

I'd love some local knowledge help if possible. It seems to me that the bus stops that 'serve' the school are a mile away from the school with no safe walking routes- is that right?

I am looking to see if I can use the school minibus but I am also wondering whether I might be able to get in to an arrangement with a local driver to pick up and drop off at the beginning and end of the day as that would give me more time flexibility.

I have considered a moped but I think it is probably just to dangerous, especially in winter.

Any thoughts gratefully received
