If you’re looking for an incentive to launch your greatly anticipated, but not quite started, exercise regime, or are just fed up with sitting in traffic on your commute to work while each day gets that bit brighter and warmer, then we have the perfect challenge for you!
Bike North Birmingham is challenging residents in Erdington & Sutton Coldfield to cycle or walk part way or even the whole way to work, as often as you can, for 2 weeks during our ‘Spring Commuter Challenge’. By logging your journeys on a dedicated website each day you’ll be in the running to win a £100 Love2shop vouchers as well as loads of other goodies. To help get you from A to B, there are route maps available from local train stations which will show you the best route to take to work by bike, foot and rail.
The challenge starts officially on Monday 17th March 2014 and finishes Sunday 30th March 2014, but entrants can register from now until the start of the challenge. Registering is straightforward, simply visit www.springchallenge.getmeactive.org.uk/ and enter your name and workplace. There’s nothing like a bit of friendly competition to make winning all the sweeter so the more colleagues, friends and family members you can involve, the better.
We want to encourage people to ditch the car and get back on a bike to improve our health, the environment and to make everybody’s journey to work that little bit nicer! There are plenty of prizes to be won such as Love2shop vouchers for the male and female with the highest number of journeys recorded, prizes for the most improved cyclist from previous challenges, best overall workplace along with random prize draws for all challengers taking part! Sustrans has previosly delivered the Challenge to hundreds of workplaces nationwide. Results show a significant increase in the number of employees travelling more actively and a 55% decrease in the amount of travel by car!
