Pregnancy yoga cardiff?

Does anyone know of a regular class in cardiff running atm? Or, does anyone know of a good class where the teacher would be happy for someone over 12 weeks pregnant to come along? I'm looking more for flexibility/relaxation than active preparation for birth, IYSWIM. Thanks in advance.

Try the natural fertility clinic in whitchurch. i'm pretty sure they run ante natal classes.

Thank you - the clinic have run them in the past but sadly, they aren't running any atm it turns out - I've found one class on Tuesdays at Canton Community Centre, I should be able to check it out week after next. I want to find one soon, or it'll be post-natal yoga I need....

I know there is a lady name Sofya who runs ante-natal classes on a Tuesday in Llandaff but her class is full!

I contacted her and she's now trying to get enough people to do a Sunday class at the Yoga Studio in Cardiff.

Her website is www.sofya.org.

let me know how you get on because i'm hoping there will be enough interest to get this class going.

Also, i have heard of a class in Danescourt but i haven't got around to looking into it yet!

cheers!

Hi Julybabymama (is July when you are due? I'm due late July) -

Many thanks for info - I found sofya.org.uk and I've e-mailed the lady asking for info about classes. It says on her website there are new classes starting on Sundays, 5:30 - 7pm, so I wonder if that's at the yoga studio?

That would be ideal for me - good day and on the right side of Cardiff.

I now can't get to the Canton Community centre class next Tuesday cos I have a meeting, so it would be great if one of these other classes is possible - fingers crossed.

Julybabymama,

Sofya replied and said yes, she was hoping to run classes 5-6:30 pm on Sundays, starting on Feb 28th. She's going to e-mail me end of next week to confirm. So, fingers crossed....

Ah, great you are late July too - I haven't been to ante-natal yoga before (not been pregnant before) and wondered if they might be full of ladies in 8th/9th months - nothing wrong with that at all of course, just that I would feel a bit of a fraud without a massive bump to show for it all!

I'll post again when Sofya e-mails me, and will see if I can drum up any more pregnant yoga-curious friends as well....

BTW I'm also due late July and was also worried that everyone at classes would look more pregnant than me!! I'm going to look into the Sofya classes too as would find Sunday night easier to do than Tuesday evenings.

Hi Arian15 - thanks, I'll look that up -

It must be this? - www.transform-workplaceyoga.co.uk/classes_specialist.html

Danescourt is slightly on the wrong side of town for me, the yoga studio would be loads easier if it goes ahead, but it seems ante-natal yoga classes are like hen's teeth! so worth investigating...Thx.

Hi Barkfox, yes that is the one. Good luck finding somewhere! Yes I agree, they are really hard to find. In fact I'm not finding it easy to find any kind of pre-pregnancy classes in Cardiff. You'd think there would be loads here. What is you due date? Mine is July 26 (by dates) though July 30th by scan. Hope you've had good pregnancy so far!

barkfox · 17/02/2010 19:56

Hi Arian15 - I'm due July 29th by dates and July 24th by scan, so we're pretty much in the same week I reckon! -

And I've had a great pregnancy so far, no sickness, no real tiredness - I feel a tiny bit superstitious about saying that, there's a long way to go, and who knows, I could spend the last 3 months puffing around like an overheated manatee with all kinds of ailments...But I'll enjoy it while the going's good. How are you doing??

Hi Barkfox, bizarre that we're due in the same week!
I'm afraid I think ending up puffing around like overheated manatees is inevitable! Scarey! I too have had a TOUCH WOOD, good pregnancy so far. Haven't felt the baby move yet but my bump has really popped out this week. Probably also because I'm eating my own bodyweight in muffins and toast every day. Am currently living in leggings but will have to give in and go maternity clothes shopping soon. Have you decided to find out whether you're having a boy or girl yet?? We're still debating whether to keep it a surprise or not.

Heh - Arian15, we must be on the same schedule - I've felt no movement yet (which doesn't bother me until I see some thread with everyone being kicked from 12 weeks etc) - and this week, bumpwise, things have popped out quite suddenly. On Monday I was coming to terms with having to undo my regular jeans everytime I sat down - by Thursday I was panic-buying maternity jeans online. Thank heavens for trackie bottoms...

Boy or a girl - well, what's really interesting is that before getting pregnant, I assumed we would find out the sex at scans, most people I know have - but now, I'm not sure at all. My partner is the same. I'm not sure why, in all honesty, but I think we will probably ask not to be told. I think it's maybe a bit superstitious, which is silly really - but it's also to do with the way that everything to do with babies is so gendered (pink for girls, blue for boys, ballerinas versus cars etc etc). I get a bit grumpy about all that anyway, and it just seems so unfair to sort of start that before this new person is even born!

I know we could always keep it secret, so we wouldn't have to deal with other people's reactions - but I dunno. It's quite a strong emotional reaction I didn't see coming, so I'm not sure how to explain it really. I just seems to make sense to me that finding out of they're a boy or a girl is a big part of 'meeting' them, and I'd rather wait.

But who knows, that might all be nonsense, and I could change my mind tomorrow!

I hope you find some maternity clothes you like - I've invested in some bump bands from Blooming Marvellous (on sale) to try and make sure I don't have to buy an entire new wardrobe of tops....

Hi Barkfox,
I know what you mean about how everything being so gendered. ie. it's assumed all little boys will want to wear blue and wear clothes with pictures of cars on them and all girls will be girly. It's like stamping an identity on your child before it has even had a chance to develop its own personality. Still in two minds about finding out the gender. I said to my partner that I think the best strategy is to maybe go to the scan with an open mind and see how we feel when we get there.
Another argument for not finding out is someone told me that the excitement of finding out the gender at the actual birth motivates you through labour. Not sure how much that applies in reality though!
My bump has also popped out majorly. In fact it looked much bigger on Sunday morning than it did on Saturday bizarrely. Bought some maternity jeans from Mothercare yesterday after spending the rest of the weekend wearing the only thing that still fits - hideous old fluffy tracksuit bottoms covered in cat hair. Planning to get the rest from cheapish places like H&M.
Have you gone to the antenatal yoga class yet? Mine starts next week and doing NCT in June. Given that we're both due at the same time maybe would be nice to meet for coffee one day to compare notes. Let me know if you fancy it? Most of my friends are in the pre having baby stages at the moment and can't really relate to my constant baby talk!

Hi Arian - same pregnancy schedule and same wardrobe, by the sound of things! I'm also spending a lot of time in my cat-furred tracksuit bottoms - very chic.

I had an e-mail from sofya confirming that her class starts this Sunday at the yoga studio, next to the Buddhist centre on St Peter's street, 5-6:30. I'm really looking forward to it, I need some advice about yoga poses now there is some bump to negotiate.

Meeting up is a nice idea - I'm in my late 30s, so find a lot of my friends are in the post-having baby stages! A little while ago I set up the CAT messaging thing on mumsnet - I'll try and remember how that works, and send you a message, which should give you my e-mail address. If I can make it work...

Ok great! I'm not sure how to use the CAT messaging but will try to sign up. I am pretty useless with technology though so if you send me a message and I don't reply it's probably because I haven't spotted it.So just let me know you've sent it on this message board and I'll try to find it on the CAT messaging. Good luck with Yoga this Sunday. Am starting my class next Wednesday in Danescourt. Hoping it will magically turn me into a really relaxed zen-like pregnant woman instead of a neurotic mad woman. Fingers crossed!

Hi Arian - I've just tried sending a message via CAT - I think what happens is that someone from MN forwards it to your e-mail, once they've checked it isn't abusive! So hopefully it should arrive okay...

how was it?
i was on holiday but will be there tomorrow!

Oh, hello! Yes, I went last Sunday, and will go again today - (I'm assuming you mean Sofya's class at the Yoga Studio, I've slightly lost track of what's where) -

It was all very slow and relaxing - much less strenuous than I've done before, pre-pregnancy - lots of repeating moves, lots of focused breathing etc -

I felt great afterwards, about a foot taller, and all 'loose'. So yes, see you there later, then!
