New to the area and looking for playgroups/classes

I have just moved to the Guildford area, and don't really now anyone.

My DD is 3.4 and has started pre-school 4 mornings a week. I would like to find friendly playgroups and/or classes that I can take my 19 month DS to while DD is there, and also groups or classes or soft play areas or similar that I can take them both to in the afternoons or Wednesday mornings when she's not at pre-school.

Any recommendations very gratefully received

Hi I`m in Godalming but probably too old for you as mine are all at University!!Suggest you try library ,sure they have booklets full of info and NCT.Plenty of young Mums in Godalming and Guildford -good luck or I could get in some "Granny" practice!

Thanks MaddyLou, I appreciate you answering. I hadn't thought of the library, I will try that. I'm also hoping that once the weather improves enough to go to the playground for more than 5 minutes, I might meet a few people that way. I've never moved with children before and am finding it all a bit stressful.

Hi FFF, welcome to Guildford! I live a couple of miles outside Guildford now but when my two dc were born I lived in central Guildford and found the NCT very helpful. There are loads of toddler groups around the area, library definitely a good place to start. Lots of the church halls seem to host toddler groups so maybe check out notice boards outside churches if you are wandering past. I will have a think and come back if i can remember any more!

Thanks Stacey. I just need to bite the bullet and get out there. I'm finding it all a bit daunting at the moment, which is ridiculous really. I am a member of the NCT so I will give the local branch a call, and I will try the local village churches.

Hi Frazzled there is a playgroup in Ripley village hall on Wednesday mornings during term time. 10-11.30. It's got ride on toys, a slide, a craft activity every week, free tea and coffee and drinks and biscuits for the children and finishes with singing.

Ripley is just along the A3 from Guildford, it's literally only a few minutes.

Hi, I used to go to a baby/toddler group on Weds mornings at Chertsey Street Baptist Church which is close to town centre, a minute from York Road car park, if that helps. They are friendly...

Thanks everyone. I really appreciate all the advice.

It seems all the groups around the area are on Wednesday mornings, which is the day that DD doesn't go to pre-school. I know some limit the sessions to under 3's so I'll do some phoning around tomorrow and see if any might be suitable to take them both to.

I know of two nice playgroups on a Thursday and Friday morning in the Godalming area, was also going to recomend one on a Wednesday too Let me know if you'd be interested, I guess it depends on how far you want to travel - the more local the better from your point of view I suppose.

How about Tumble Tots for your little one or Music Land, or The Gymnastics Factory

Soft play at Little Angles here is ok maybe a bit big for your two, or there's the Farncombe Fun Zone here which would be much more manageable for them, and Fizzy Kids here in North Camp is good too.

Hope this helps

Thanks godalmingmum. I am actually in one of the villages outside guidlford, so I am quite close to Godalming. I'd be very interested in nice playgroups there. Thank you very much. And thank you for the other suggestions as well, I will definitely check them all out.

The Ark Baptist Church playgroup in Godalming meets on a Thursday. The other one is in St John's Church in Farncombe on a Friday (and I think a Thursday too) this gives the details of the church can't find anything more specific about the playgroup.

Sorry to name change for this, I'm always worried about being identified from posting on the local site.

That's ok. Similarly I don't want to post exactly which village I'm in. thanks so much for the recommendations.

Most of the local villages have their own playgroups - and there are multiple groups in Guildford and Godalming. Fairly comprehensive list here www.familiesonline.co.uk/article/articleview/3161/1/230/
