South Leeds and feeling isolated......

Hi there - I dropped off mumsnet once i'd had my son 8 months ago.

I'm in South Leeds and now that DS is older and mobile i really feel i need to be taking him out to socialise. Im not very good at making friends and dont have any kind of support network in terms of family and friends (gosh, how sad do i sound!) so am feeling really isolated and guilty that i'm not giving DS the stimulation he needs.

Does anyone know of any good groups for babies in the south leeds or wakefield area or does anyone fancy meeting up and making friends with a lonely mum with a baby wiggling to become a social butterfly and who is boring a poor daddy with her daily humdrum.

Hi,

I'm in South Leeds too (Morley). I have a dd 18 months. We too don't have any family here so I know how you feel (oh and as for making friends you can't be worse than me - I'm am sooooo quiet/scared/worried! )

We started Sing & Sign at St Andrew's Church in Morley and absolutely loved it. We've moved on to Stage 2 now and intend to go for as long as we can. It's definitely the most enjoyable, friendly group we've found.

The other group we went to was Jo Jingles. We enjoyed that but the time of day didn't really fit in well with dd.

I tried the baby group at the Salvation Army but found it a bit cliquey. There is an NCT group on the first Monday of every month at the Children's center behind Bertie's diner in Morley town center.

Would be happy to meet up too. There's soft play places (Playdayz in Morley, there's one at Xscape in Castleford, Cottonbudz in Rodley) where the kids could play about or there's places for coffeee like at the White Rose. I think a few of us are going to try at meet p at Birstall for a coffee sometime too.

Hi there Ladybabo - I wonder if we've ever passed each other in Morrisons (i hat that place - can't wait for the new store).......and strolling up and down Wood Lane....Rothwell Park is lovely but it gets boring and I too found the playgroup a little cliquey.

I've started taking my DS to the softplay centre up at Middleton sports centre on Thursday mornings which is fun. I've done quite a bit of digging around with the local children's centre and there's a few things going on in South Leeds if you're interested.....

Thanks for your reply nuttygirl - sorry for the delay in replying - we've all had lergy in our house. Let me know when your next Birstall meetup is. x

Quite possibly, Tallulah! Getting too bloody cold for park now, though. My main problem is that I am restricted as can't drive (yet) so rely on hubby's ability to give lifts, depending on what he's doing workwise (self employed).

Bring on the new Morriebobs! I'm hoping for a big bakery section (mmmm.....)

What is this childrens centre of which you speak?!

I too am looking forward to the new Morrisons - particularly the fish counter and bread section, you know, a proper Market Street bit.

The Childrens Centre is at Rose Farm, Cornwall Crescent, just off Wood Lane on the edge of Wood Lane Estate. They will happily provide you with details of whats on around and about South Leeds. They have 'Stay and Play' sessions and Baby Yoga, Baby Massage, Baby Boutique going on throughout the week at Rose Farm, Rose Lund (John O Gaunts) and Victoria School (further up Cornwall Cres) - you just pick which fits in best with nap times and turn up. The Childrens Centre number is: 0113 282 2319 if you call them they'll post you some info or you call in and look around.

My LO really loves the Soft Play session at Middleton and I enjoy it too and have met a few lovely mums there and he always sleeps really well afterwards and it's free for under one's or £1.20 for older kiddies. We go on a Thursday morning, 11-12. There's a session at 10-11 and sometimes we'll go to the session on Monday afternoon 1pm -2pm.

If you fancy giving it a go you are more than welcome to come along with us and I'd happily pick you up. I probably wont get chance to be on Mumsnet for a few days again but by all means text me on 07842 666 022 and let me know if you'd like to meet up join us. It is too cold for the park and both Mummy and baby get frustrated being stuck in the house don't we??

Hope to hear from you.......x
