Breastfeeding help needed in Haringey

Our daughter is 2.5 weeks old and has got the hang of breastfeeding beautifully. Problem is , she's losing weight so the midwife has suggested supplementing with formula twice a day. This is going fine but I'd really like to talk to a breastfeeding consultant or go to a breastfeeding class to see if there's anything I can do to make sure I'm producing enough milk.

Does anyone know anyone or any group in Haringey (preferably local to Crouch End but can travel) that I can go and see?

Thanks loads.

Hi m27 I went to a really good breastfeeding support group at the Stonecroft children's centre which is on Priory road. I was reffered by the health visitor at Crouch End Health Centre. The number for the health centre is 0208 341 2045 if you want to give them a call.

Hope all going well otherwise!

Stonecroft is more local to you but the Woodlands Park group is a lovely group, it's just the other side of Green Lanes on a Thursday morning. It's the one that's been going the longest and is quite a social group as well, although I came across it at a time when I was probably too distressed to make the most of that.

Thanks for this. We went to the stonecroft group on Wednesday. Jenny, the breastfeeding counsellor, was fantastic. I feel much more reassured about everything now. Have fingers crossed that DD's weight will be up at Saturday's weighing.

Yep, Jenny is fantastic. She did a couple of home visits for me when she didn't get the chance to talk to me during the group or it wasn't feasible to discuss something there. Glad you're feeling better about it now

Good luck m27!

As the mother of 2 older children I would say don't worry too much about having your baby weighed - it doesn't mean much at the end of the day as long as your child is thriving.

I know another bf counsellor (elkiedee does her name begin with A?)

I met Jenny too, and would certainly contact her much sooner if I'm lucky enough to get to have another baby. She's an NHS employee (through the Primary Care Trust) and works from my local Health Centre I think.

The NCT bf counsellor is called Alison, is that who you're thinking of Mercy?

Yes, Jenny is contactable through the Crouch End Health Centre. Although any local HV should be able to put you in touch with her. I have recently qualified as a bf counsellor with the ABM and will be going to the Stonecroft meeting for the first time this week (and will meet Jenny for the first time. She sounds very nice on the phone!).
The ABM have a national helpline - details here.

As anyone on this site is local to me I'll probably be the person you speak to if you ring it.
