Nurseries near Bottisham..... or Station Road Cambridge

Hi all,

Well it's already time for me to consider Childcare options eventhough DS is only 10 weeks old.

Can anyone recommend a nursery near Bottisham?

We're going to visit First Steps in Wilbraham and Red House in Burwell next week. I'm also looking at Patacake in Cambridge as it's near where I work....

Thanks
Sallypoo

Hi Sallypoo,

Someone I used to work with had kids at a nursery out that way and was very pleased with it... unfortunately I've kind of lost touch with him since I moved jobs, but I could drop him a line and ask if that would help.

As for nurseries near Station Road, there are several good ones, but they are quite pricey and not necessarily that flexible. Joint Colleges on Chaucer Road (the other end of Brooklands Avenue) is lovely (DS2 went there from nearly 3 til school age), but will only take children for five days a week - you can have just mornings, or just afternoons, or full-time, but no chopping and changing of days. Similarly, Harvey Road is meant to be very good, but I think has the same five-day policy.

If school holidays aren't a problem, Sancton Wood and St Colettes pre-prep departments are also in that area, but they are private schools so keep school hours (and private school holidays, so longer...).

Good luck! Nursery care is such a minefield. My friend's daughter is at Patacake and loves it.

I visited Patacake and loved it (as did my 3 year old who wanted to stay!) but it was just too difficult for us to get to (DH works at Addenbrookes) plus they were very full so couldn't fit us in in the time scale for me to be back at work.

But depending on when you want DS to go then you should be in plenty of time.

Sancton Wood nursery (unicorns) seems nice - I went round sancton wood school yesterday which I also thought was lovely!

Sallypoo - do you live in Bottisham?
We looked at a couple of houses there recently. What is it like to live there? We looked at Bell Road and Peacock Drive.

Loved the house on bell road but we can't put an offer in just yet (our house no where near sold) so think someone else has got in there.

I know a couple of people who used First Steps and were happy with it.
Red House appears to be less popular that it was, but again I know people who have used it recently / are using it now and are happy with it.
Have you considered a CM? I know it seems a long time off but when lo is at school a local CM can be a god send.

Just seen your other post on CM's from Dec. I know of 2 CM's in SP, mine is great and while I don't know about the other from the childcare side she is lovely and a couple of friends use her. If you go down this route would be happy to talk to you about them.

thegrowlygus
did you decide to move to Bottisham?

it is a nice village and primary school just has new head teacher so will hopefully go from a very good school to a great school
