I am looking for a nursery for my 10month old. I would like to hear other mums' opinions. TA

My daughter was at Happy Times on Filmer Road. I chose it because I really liked the building and facilities (especially the garden) and the staff seemed lovely. She went from 5 months until she was a little bit over one.
Mostly I was very happy with it, but towards the end was pretty concerned about their staffing levels which were too low, so that is something to check. I was also cross the final day when I collected my daughter (during nap time) and the woman supervising the 1-2 year olds did not even know which child was mine - she knew none of their names as far as I could tell.

I have heard very good things about Bobby's Playhouse. The reason I did not choose it for my daughter was because they would not let me look around until I was offered a place and would not say when a place was likely to come up. Not great when you are planning to return to work and are looking at nursery places before your child is even born!

Anyway, good luck. Just look at a few and go with your gut instinct.

I went to see HT on Filmer Road and wasn't very impressed, the staff seemed very uninspired and not very enthusiastic, I also heard nice things about Bobby's playhouse but when i went for a visit they were very quick to send me off, I didnt even go into the baby/toddler rooms, and few of my questions were answered with 'did you receive our brochure? its all in there' which made me very cross, I am about to let them look after my LO and she cannot be bothered to answer my questions. I will have to check HT again, as it is very close and the price is ok. I also went to see Active learning, which is a bit pricey and a bit far, so I am curious to hear from others about it, to see if its worth stretching a bit. Also when I went to see it there were only handful children in so i would like to know what it is like when they are busier.

Gosh, it's bad to hear that HT has gone off. They did do some lovely acivities - like growing their own salad! - and there was a lady in the baby room who my daughter adored. Plus they were very good about giving her medication for a number of weeks when she wasn't well. But I guess lots of these places have staffing issues which must be bad for employee morale from time to time. A fair few staff left shortly before we did.

Bobby's seemed offhand to me too - I never even made it through the door (!) and the idea that I would wait to plan returning to work until they came up with a place and I had looked round seemed insane. It would make me cross too if someone wouldn't answer my questions.

I never heard about Active Learning, so I wonder if it wasn't there when we lived in Fulham.

Other places I looked at were Little People (on Lillie Road) and Jigsaw at Hammersmith, bu it was so long ago my opinions probably aren't much use any more!

Good luck, I hope you find somewhere you like. I will ask around my remaining Fulham friends and see if any of them have any good ideas.

Thanks Scary, its seemed that Active learning is new, they are in Sands End, so I would have to drive there, but they have those online cameras so you can check whats going on ;) which is reassuring. If you find out anything please let me know, you can imagine how desperate I am, especially after watching that BBC programme the other night. All the mums I know around here are SAHM so only using nurseries part-time and for older children so I am grateful for any suggestions.

Um. I'm really sad to hear about the experiences others have had at Bobby's Placehouse. My daughter has been there since she was 5 months old (nearly 4yrs old now) and my son since he was 8 months old (now 2yrs old). The staff have been very very good with only a few concerns over the years (which I think is great considering the length we've been there). Both children love the caregivers in their rooms and we have a few we trust to no end to babysit.

I know if I had the same introductions others list here I would also be skeptical and truly sorry this happened as the primary caregivers are very very good - the kids are happy and well looked after.
