Free toddler friendly museums in town centre

We've just moved in to Girton, and will be in town pretty frequently for shopping. What are the free (indoor) places you drop into with your kids to give them a break from shopping? I know the library is shut until spring, and DD could really do with somewhere fun to let off steam.

We used to go to the Fitzwilliam quite a lot when DD was first walking. She's a bit quick and boisterous now, so would probably break a Ming vase or two.

There are a few musuems on Downing Street, one of them has some dinosaurs upstairs, but I can't remember which.

Kettles Yard is free and there is usually room to run around even though it is small. I like the opportunity to see different artists there, but DH always scoffs. I think they have a Glitter Glue session once a month that I have never managed to get to.

Livingstones Cafe is good for a drink and has a childrens play area in the corner.

Michaelhouse cafe is also good for coffee and cake (though pricy). They don't seem to mind toddlers charging around (I hope!).

St Andrews church has a Bounce-a-round session on a Wednesday between 9.45am and 1.30pm and you can pop in for up to 2 hours for a couple of quid-ish. Could break up a shopping trip.

This is what springs to mind immediately. Hope it helps.

Agree with akent, the Fitzwilliam is good, when mine where little they loved going there to watch the big glass elevator (they wheren't interested in the exhibits though ).

Livingstons have a little play area in the corner and don't mind if your DCs scream the place down, run around, or chuck bits of sandwitch at each other!

Michealhouse also good but can get quite busy.

The zoological museum is a good one, dss and I can spend a good few hours there on a cold wet day even though it is small!

My dss also used to think a trip to elc to play with the toys was a treat and we'd often head there after shopping in town. There's one in lion yard and one in the grafton.

I can't wait for the library to re-open though!
