DS2 (11) and I plan to cycle from Cambridge to St Ives and back, and I've promised to take him out to lunch. Any recommendations?

River Terrace Cafe. Lovely place. The food is delicious. It's right by the bridge, so great views across the water meadow.

If you are prepared to cycle slightly further, you could go to the Pike and Eel at Needingworth. We sometimes cycle there for lunch at the weekend. Food isn't great in the garden - pizza, burgers etc - but it's on the river and there's a seal who basks on the river bank if you're lucky. There's a restaurant part to the pub if you want nicer food but they don't serve the nice food in the garden.

Thank you Emma! Will bear Needingworth in mind for another trip as I think St Ives will be far enough this time. But a seal in the garden would be a great draw for DS2 (and me).

Wow there was no seal when we had our wedding reception there more years ago than I care to remember .

St Ives is so lovely. My home town, but I rarely lunch there these days.

There is The Dolphin Hotel but that’s more ‘upmarket dining’.

Thanks JanglyBeads don't think The Dolphin will be us, in our cycling kit!

@JanglyBeads have you been to The Dolphin recently? It's no longer upmarket.....

Ah, no, I haven’t been to The Dolphin for a few years! Did I see that it changed hands or something?
