Hi, first timer here, please be kind! 😁
We are moving into Histon/Impington and are looking for advice on the primary schools and preschool/nurseries. We will have a Y6, Y4, Y2 and a 3 yr old tonsort in September so any opinions of whats good or where to avoid would be great.
TIA

Hi! I’m also a first timer here :) I will follow your thread with interest because I’m too interested in knowing about the primary school in Impington, especially the environment, community feel and outdoor time etc and relationship with screens/phones etc.

Our 16 month old daughter attends the Wendy House Impington Nursery since she was 9 months (we currently live in Cambridge north). It is brilliant. It’s very focused on open ended play and kids spend a lot of time outdoors in their wood and meadow. Staff are kind and attentive. We had a few concerns previously and we’re able to speak with the manager to manager who is very kind and open to communication. Concerns were related to desiring a more gentle introduction to nursery and a high number of babies/children in the rooms - the latter we now understand is very well managed, Babies room had 16 babies which to me is a lot, but they’re never there all together and spend a lot of time out - plus the room is very big and has natural light and beautiful and thoughtful toys. Kids seem very happy there and every parent I meet there is extremely happy. We visited several nurseries in Cambridge and this one definitely stood out due to the outdoors ethos and home away from home feel, it is very familiar and the food is amazing and very healthy - all cooked there and no sweets/juice etc.

Happy to answer any other questions you may have about it but I wouldn’t worry about nursery - you’re sorted if they have a place :)

Hope someone else provided input about the schools! I have heard good things but not near enough to convince me yet!

The primaries are in a state of change at the moment. They're going from having an infant school and a junior school (which were up to 4 classes per year) to having two all-through primaries (2 classes per year). One of those is a brand new building; the other is the former junior school, I think with some fairly new build there too. I think the infants moved to the new site for part of last year.

So I don't think anyone is going to be able to tell you which is the better school! From what I can see, next year they will both have reception and year 3 classes, but year 1/2 will continue at the new site and year 4/5/6 will continue at the old juniors, so your older ones may not have a choice. They're not far from each other, and people always used to manage picking up from both infants and juniors, so I wouldn't panic about that.

Beach Babies nursery in Landbeach is wonderful (lots of outdoor activities)

Schools are good in the villages.

@bongelam really useful info on Wendy House, we’re currently enquiring so it’s nice to hear feedback from someone with first hand experience.

What is the pricing like there please if you wouldn’t mind sharing?x
