Hi, we're finally moving out of London. We're looking to get a 4/5 bedroom house with about 0.5 acres of land and we're fortunate to have the budget to do this.

We have found you get more for your money in SP and FR compared to Gx.

Could anyone speak of their experiences of living in SP and FR and in particular what state schooling (the reason for our move) and general every day life and conveniences are like?

I appreciate that we'll have to go to Beaconsfield and Gx for nights out and more sophisticated shopping so it would be great to know what traffic is like too.

GX doesn't have much in the way of state schools, does it?
1 (?) state primary, no state secondary schools.

Also, you do know Bucks is a secondary modern area (aka gramma area Wink) ? As you are specifically looking for state schools, make sure you are happy with the idea of your DC attending a school where the top sets have been filtered off.

Hi, sorry I should be clearer. We're moving so we don't have to pay for private education. We're happy to consider all schooling outside that criteria. This thread is less about schooling itself and more about the areas themselves of which schooling in an important part.

It would be great to hear from locals.

I'm a (very) ex local Smile but my DPs are still in GX.

I guess my point on schooling is if you don't want to pay then there might be less choice in GX than elsewhere as so many do use private.
Plus if you aren't aware of the grammar school situation you might want to know before accidentally moving to a grammar area.

Personally I don't really rate GX very much, I think Beaconsfield is much nicer. A lot of GX's facilities are actually in Chalfont St Peter.

The local boards don't always get a lot of traffic.
You could try posting on the Primary board with a similar title, but maybe wait a couple of days as I can imagine primary parents might be quite busy over the next couple of days. Xmas Smile

Thank you! I'm really sorry, but could you put up a hyperlink to the correct board? I've never used this site and find the navigation a little tough. Thank you!

Stoke Poges is nice but quiet. Wexham is similar.
Farnham Common is sought after so it’s expensive but nice village feel. Farnham Royal is cheaper for a reason, not as nice and close to Slough.
Gerrards Cross is lovely but don’t get much for your money.
I live in one of these places and hanker after Beaconsfield New Town! But could never afford to live there.
Gerrards Cross has couple of primary schools, secondary you’re looking at grammar or Chalfont Community College or The Beaconsfield School.
Stoke Poges has a good primary as does Farnham Common.
Farnham Royal has St Mary’s and catholic St Anthony’s. For Secondary School there’s Beechwood. Let me know what else you want to know.
Oh for shopping I always go to Beaconsfield or GX, loads of free parking.

Thank you so much.

It would be great to get an idea of what the amenities are in the area and for sports? Or do you really have to go to GX for everything?

I suppose travel is purely Gx for the train....?
