Relocating to Winchester from overseas

Hi,
We;ve been living overseas for a few years (previously in Surrey) and would like to move to Winchester when we return.
Is there anyone here who has done the same and kids have gone to one of the state secondaries outside the normal entry point (year 7). My daughter would hopefully join in year 8, I'm interested to know how easy it will be for her to settle, how well schools facilitate this and how open the kids are to welcoming a newcomer!
