Advice on Relocating to Scottish Borders

Teacake123 · 06/06/2020 15:11

My husband and I are thinking of relocating to the Scottish Borders From Yorkshire and have heard good things about Melrose and Kelso. We have 3 children who are currently primary school aged but not far off high school for the eldest. Does anyone have any views on high schools in the area, those to avoid or those that are very good. We’ve been warned off Jedburgh Grammar and Eyemouth High but just wanted to get a sense of other people’s opinions as well. Any views on primary schools too would be great and any recommendations of villages/towns to live in. Thanks

Forgot to also ask if there are football clubs and gymnastics clubs in Melrose and Kelso for children. Thanks

We have some family in that area - it’s a bit snobby for my liking to be honest but it is a beautiful part of the world

I guess it depends what you are after really and how connected you want to be to other towns etc.

Kelso is a bit more rural than melrose, a lot less public transport and shops. There is a gymnastics club (only on certain days) and football club in kelso as well as various other clubs e.g. dance, rugby, swimming, tennis. Both primary schools are great, I cant answer for the new high school but it was fine when I went 😂

Melrose has the charm of being a small town but it's very close to galashiels so benefits from everything available there.

Jeez don’t, lived there for 10 years. You will always be an outsider, very little to do, very backwards in its views, it’s very pretty but that’s about all it’s got.
