A14 Noise in Girton?

We are planning a move to be near our daughter and her twins who live in Foxton, half way between Cambridge and Royston. We would like to live in Great Shelford but the chances of buying there are remote and it is a bunfight, everything decent goes instantly. Girton is one of our alternatives and am alerted to some new houses that are being built on and behind the plot of 39 Pepys Way in Girton. So gardens of Weavers Field is behind the development, then beyond Weavers Field is the dreaded A14. Obviously it’s early days and will go look and listen but if anyone in immediate vicinity can comment on noise would be grateful. Realise there will be a hum at minimum but would that be heard indoors? We think it will take 20 mins to Foxton and Girton has a good community plus near to Cambridge with buses available, both important to us as we stumble towards older age!
But noise? Not sure!
Thank you

Hmmm. I don't know about the noise in that specific area but I would guess there would be noise, and I wouldn't want to be so close to the A14.

You mention bus travel - I say this on all the threads by people relocating to Cambridge Grin but it's worth looking at the busway routes, I would move to a village on one of the routes if possible, and preferably south of cambridge to be near Foxton (if you're moving to be near them you might as well be near and not the wrong side of the city).

Thanks, Emma , but except for Shelfords which are so expensive there is only really Harston and not much there. Girton more of a size and don’t need to go through centre of Cambridge to go towards Foxton. Histon possible I guess as not really further and has guided busway.

I never found the noise in girton that bad when I lived there. Just a hum in the background.

Fair point about Girton being on the right side for Foxton - traffic will still be annoying but probably not as bad as going from Histon for example.

Girton and Histon/Impington are the more desirable villages on the north side.

Grantchester is lovely but a bit sleepy and probably no decent bus

My parents live in Weavers Field and the noise is not a problem. It's a nice place to live.

Thank you, nice to get local views especially from someone whose parents live in Weavers Field. It’s amazing how we can get such amazing information, Mumsnet is wonderful!

@Twinsgranny
Did you move to Girton in the end? If so, how do you find the road noise?
