Hi, just discovered the "local" bit here.

I'm from Kilmarnock, have a 6month old boy and am going back to work next week, which obviously I'm dreading!

There are 3 of us here with 6 month olds - we prob have already met. Does any1 go to Killie breastfeeding group?

Report
yelnats · 14/08/2007 22:28

Or any mother and toddler groups?

Report
columbolover · 14/08/2007 22:43

Now I'm feeling really antisocial! I've not ventured to any mum and baby / toddler groups yet, though intend to find a good one when I go back to work, that's if ds can tolerate it after the trauma of nursery!

I too am going back to work soon - 3rd September. I'm quite lucky that my mum will be looking after my 2. I am only going back 2 and a half days but I work in Glasgow so its quite long days. I am dreading it! Still bf'ing and really struggling to get dd2 to take a bottle so that she can get some milk when I;m at work.

What end of Kilmarnock are you? (if you want to share)

columbolover · 15/08/2007 08:38

I'm going back 3 days, which is 3 too many as far as I'm concerned! - I'm so uninterested in my career now, although everyone says that'll change but I don't think so!

How lucky you are to have your mum looking after yours, hopefully you can go back to work and not worry just as much.

Don't really have any advice re the switching to bottle feeding - ds didn't take to bf despite my best intentions so have been formula feeding from early on.

One of my friends got her hubby to bottle feed their daughter at night (with expressed milk) to start with and now she takes the bottle with no problem, I think its formula milk she gets at night now too.

Oh, I stay in crosshouse, what about you?

I know waht you mean about being uninterested in going back! you will get used to it though - when I went back after dd1 I found it really hard for ages but you do get used to it and actually enjoy the adult company and conversation that doesnt focus around babies.

I formula fed dd1 as breastfeeding didnt work out from very early on so I dont have any experience of changing over either. Will make a bottle this morning and my mum can try her with it this afternoon.

I have a bottle of water made up in the fridge thats been there since Monday - will I need to throw it away ad re-sterilise bottle and refresh water before adding formula or should it be ok to heat the water and add the milk?

Report
columbolover · 15/08/2007 11:25

No, don't use the water! its only fresh for 24 hrs. Mind you, have used water 36 hrs later by mistake (disorientation i think!)but ds didn't notice anyway. I make up the water the night before - you can leave at room temp - and then add the formula when your about to feed dd.

Must dash, trying to get ds to snooze, has been up all night trying to do press ups in his cot and getting annoyed as he can't get back over. I'm hoping this is just a phase..

at work just now just trying to alleviate the boredom - columbolover, don't worry too much about nursery, both my kids have been through daycare and are both absolutely fine! My first one went at 18mths but my second one at 5mths (now 7 and 3)and both were happy there - don't get me wrong, my youngest one liked to torture me pretty much every day with crying but was absolutely fine about two minutes later and totally happy when i picked him up. I was lucky to get a wave from my elder one though - i don't known what is worse lol!

As for bf and changing to bottle, i had that problem with dd1 as I started to work when she was 7mths but she took to it okay - didn't really have a choice, but with son i added a formula bottle in after a few weeks as I knew he would be going to nursery quite early on.

thanks for the reassurance, ds has been for a practice session and seemed a bit bewildered by the whole thing, although didn't cry. Will just have to take it one day at a time! Think he was the youngest in the baby room, which broke my heart, but that may just have been that day and there was another boy who looked just a couple of months older. I'll check out with the staff if there's other babies on the days he goes.

Sorry your bored at work, day must be over soon though! I'll be able to identify with this feeling next friday when I start back!

up till yesterday there was about 3 postings and today theres lots..

im looking for people to start up a new mother and toddlers if anyone is interested

Report
yelnats · 17/08/2007 09:28

Didnt bother with the bottle on Wednesday after all - too easy to just feed her myself. I really need to wean her onto the bottle this week - as much as I really dont want to! I go back to work 2 weeks on Monday and I havent even started properly.

I'd def be interested in a new Mothers and Toddlers Group. The one nearest to me isnt that great from what I remember with dd1 - havent been yet with dd2 but was thinking of going once dd1 goes back to playgroup next week.

Where abouts would you be thinking of having it?

Hello - is there anyone about? Thread was busy for a few days now it all seems to have stopped.

Back at work on Friday, dreading, could easily be a SAHM though part of me is looking forward to being able to start having luch and the odd cup of tea uninterrupted - though that's about all I'm looking forward to!

ds has been for second half day at nursery which seemed to go well..if only you could read their minds

Trying to think how I can turn over a new leaf in 2 days to become ultra organised, god knows how we're going to get out of the house in the mornings!
