Moving to Kingston/Merton

Hi - I’m new to mum’s net and currently planning to move to the Kingston/Merton area with my DH and planning for future DC (had to google these acronyms).
And if this thread is being answered elsewhere, please do redirect me☺️.

I’m really looking to get some advice from locals in what you do or do not like to help us find the most suitable area within price range.

As with most people we have quite a long list of would likes (more or less by priority):

  • catchment area of outstanding primary and secondary schools (I know ratings could change in a few years!). Schools where we have to be religious would not be an option, mainly because we wouldn’t meet the criteria rather than us being averse to them - we just want the best education opportunities.
  • ideally 3/4 bed house (maybe potential to expand or update) with off street parking.
  • budget c.£600k depending on work needed.
  • safe area
  • close to basic amenities e.g. GP and local shop for essentials
  • 30mins commute to London as we’ll both be working
  • 10-12mins walking to a train/tube station
  • ideally within 1h drive to Reading and 20mins train to Clapham Junction for our parents.
  • a bit of a village, community, park area would be a bonus
  • gym or pool nearby also bonus

So far we have considered areas around the stations:
  • Raynes Park
  • Motspur Park
  • Wimbledon Chase

Specifically:
  • Are there any other areas people would recommend looking into?
  • If you live in the areas above or any other nearby area, what pros and cons can you share that you think make an impact on your experience? e.g. no space on train in the morning, community for expecting mums, local hospitals etc

Thanks in advance!
