Recommend somewhere in Scotland for me to live

Hi, I'm looking for somewhere new to live. We are lucky that we can move with our jobs and we want a fresh start - nothing bad has happened, we aren't running from anything, we're just stuck in a rut and are sick of city life (expensive, traffic etc.).

We're open to trying anywhere but we truly don't know where to start. We are looking for somewhere that is great for raising children - lots of green space if possible, but not super isolated.

My husband and I have a small toddler and are hoping to expand our family.

Anyone have any recommendations? 😊

Eaglesham is a lovely village and is in catchment for good schools. It has lots of green space but is very commutable into Glasgow city.

Thanks trixy! Looks lovely, though a quick google search doesn't seem to bring up many houses for sale? Will defs put it on our list for further investigation though, especially since it's our only suggestion so far. It's appreciated!

Are you in Scotland already or moving from down south? What about Bishopbriggs outside Glasgow? Good schools and houses regularly come up. Or Bearsden/Milngavie though they can be expensive. Busby/Clarkston another good shout.

I'm in Aberdeen. It's a small city but maybe just too small. Traffic is a nightmare. Feels like we're spending all of our time working and commuting to and from work. House prices and the cost of childcare are still high because of the once booming oil industry. We we apparently earn more than the uk average (just) but less than the aberdeen average so it's a struggle. Thank you for all your suggestions! We will consider anything!

Perth??
Small town feel (although I sometimes find it too parochial)
Close to Glasgow and Edinburgh for culture.
Close to Dundee for beaches etc.

You can drive in any direction for 5 mins for outdoor space and wonderful walks.
Good parks
Great schools

I like it here.

Have you considered going further north? Perhaps Banff/MacDuff/Portsoy? Coastal towns with more villagey feel but not tooo far away from Elgin/Aberdeen/Inverness if you need a bigger town or city

Perth / Cupar / St Andrews are all pleasant towns with good schools and nice communities.

I believe there was a survey a few years ago and the people of Perth were found to be the most content overall. There's not much wrong with Perth. I visited Cupar recently and found it very pleasant.

Do have a look at Dundee and the Angus towns. Reasonable property prices, lots to do, good links to the bigger cities and lots more going for it. Also the sunniest part of Scotland! I love it here.

NE Fife. Have a city on door step - Dundee, new V&A is opening here so lots going on. Lots of nice villages on the coast and very handy for getting to the proper countryside in Perth shire. Edinburgh is only an hour away by train. We have a 2 year old girl and have found maternity and other NHS services easy and quick to access and lots for our wee one to do. Apart from in actual st. Andrews property prices are very reasonable and we feel we have a really good balance.

I recently met a few people from the findhorn area and the adore it! All along that coast is very nice indeed.

I am from Dumfries and lived in Aberdeen for 8 years (and Hong Kong for 2) now in Fife but very close to Dundee. I definitely like this area the most. It's handy and you have great amenities but without the traffic of Edinburgh or Glasgow.

The Moray coast - anywhere between Cullen and Nairn. Beautiful beautiful scenery and beaches, nice towns and villages and reasonable house prices. Elgin has a Marks and Spencer and you're not far from Aberdeen and Inverness airports for getting away. I'm from there and would do anything to move back. Also the climate is markedly better (warmer and drier) than Aberdeen. Amazing local food businesses and easy access to all the beaches and mountains you could wish for.

Try Polmont/Linlithgow (budget depending) village feel, amenities, lots of families, surrounded by accessible woods and country parks. Less than 30 minutes into Glasgow, Edinburgh and Stirling.

Broughty ferry - great schools, beach on doorstep, angus glens just next door, close to up and coming Dundee. Village feel. Grest pubs. Fab wee place

@estrelladamn I am in Newport on Tay vicinity. And that's another good reason to move here, fabulous cakes at Kitschnbake, posh grub from a masterchef winner at The Newport, lovely meals at The View and then we have the lovely crepe shack and the amazing beach at Tenstmuir. We used to be in Broughty Ferry but moved across the river to be slightly closer to our respective works and property is slightly better value for money here.

@ginmakesitallok we loved Broughty Ferry too. Still pop through from time to time. Clementine greengrocer is fab and Gulistan is our favourite Indian restaurant in Dundee. Can't beat a wee scoop of visocchis ice cream and a walk along the beach.
