I’d be grateful if anyone can help with experience of Leighton Park School. We are currently abroad and returning to UK for Sixth form for my DS so looking for somewhere welcoming and open minded, with good academics and open to newcomers. He’s bright, thoughtful, and not Alpha/ highly sporty. Anyone got any insights? Thanks a lot !

Friend of mine's daughter went in Yr 7, didn't like it (sorry no idea why specifically but didn't gel with the school) and went to St Joseph's instead, then went on to Shiplake College for A level which she really enjoyed, fitted in with the others in the year & did well, I think she took arty/English/languages type A levels.

My DS is there and he is very happy. I was more concerned with the pastoral aspect but the academics are good too. I love the first name terms as it really feels respectful. It encourages maturity. It encourages introspection. A place where people fit in. The Quaker values really do instil something special. The banner outside proclaims Let Your Life Speak. Why not make an appointment and see how it feels. I sound like an advert! But I really am evangelical about it!

Thanks for the comments, it's very helpful to hear what you've both experienced, and glad both DCs have found their 'happy'. Now all I've got to do is to get the DS to open his mind and consider it alongside his current favorite which I have some reservations over ! Thanks again.

If you’re visiting the UK you could book him for a ‘taster day’ or just a normal tour, I don’t know if you’re looking at this September but good luck whatever you choose!

My brother went there about ten years ago and liked it very much, he has got good grades in A-levels as well

Hi bionicnemonic, I get the impression that LP seems to be for children who are musical, arty or 'need something different' than mainstream education - is this a fair comment?

I like the ideals of the school but my child is not musical (hasn't taken to piano, violin or singing), not especially arty and is probably rather an 'average mainstream kid'. Also as they are not particularly self motivated at the moment I'm concerned that LP would be too relaxed and not suit them, perhaps Luckly House would be the safer bet (assuming they can get in)?

Sorry just reread first post, my concern is for Y7 entry not Sixth form.
