School advice, we have four kids and no school!

Hi, We are relocating from West Yorkshire to Dundee or possibly Perth. I would really appreciate any advice on the schools in Dundee. They are a really mixed bag and it is very difficult to gauge things just from exam results. I have three children of high school age they will be going into S3, S4 and S5. As the elder two will be in exam years I want to try and tick as many boxes as possible. At the moment we are looking to rent. We know of Grove Academy but it is impossible to find a house in the catchment area and I am not sure even if there are places in those year groups, even if we do get a place in the area. We visited Morgan Academy, it's a stunningly beautiful building and the deputy head was very helpful, there are places available, only if we live in the catchment. The results aren't great but they do have a higher proportion of children from socially deprived areas. I am not sure if the school has more of a tougher element than any other school in the area. We haven't visited Harris but the results are better. It would be great to hear from any one who has experience of any of the school in Dundee

Hi there, We recently moved to Broughty Ferry but we almost moved to the West End. I asked around before moving and was told that Harris was good. However you do need to check if there are spaces in the school. We moved here and our local primary did not have a space so we had to use one we are not in the catchment for. This would be more difficult for a secondary than a primary I guess... Good luck! Let me know how you get on.

If you live in the catchment area you'll get into grove - they'll make space. Harris is also a good school. I wouldn't fancy Morgan - but shhh don't tell dp as that's where he went.

Hi , Thankyou both for taking the time to reply. I have now got three of my children enrolled at Harris, they will visit the school next week. The head teacher has been great. I have heard alot of great things regarding Grove but they couldn't tell me if they would have placed , shoulder move there. I think the Scottish system is far more rigid than in England! We are now in the process of sorting out the primary school. Would like to send ds to Blackness but that isn't the catchment school, any thoughs about Tayview Primary?

I know it's been a while but did Tayview Primary work out? I've heard really bad reviews of it but unfortunately it looks like there is no other option for our area
