Pirton, Weston or Hitchin

Hi, we are looking to relocate to Hitchin or nearby - seems great for everything I've read but we're currently 180 miles away so hoping for some local knowledge please! We have seen lovely houses but all very different: in town, in Weston and in Pirton. Please can anyone advise what the peak time commute to Hitchin train station is like from Pirton and Weston villages and, as a consequence is it better to be in town,I your opinion? Also, any advice about the likelihood of getting into single sex schools from these villages (3-4 miles out) would be gratefully received. Although, seems like the priory gets really good press too and I'm not convinced single sex is always preferable. V confused!! Thank you!

Pirton is lovely - a real community feel.

However, the traffic into Hitchin from Pirton at rush hour is bad - you will crawl most of the way. Also the Internet in Pirton is dire.

The traffic through Hitchin is also crawling at rush hour so walkable to station is advisable.

Don't know about the schools, sorry.

Thanks H - not good news but honest - which is what I was hoping for! Not sure how much of what estate agents say is true!

Don't despair - Hitchin is nice. Also Baldock. Many of the villages around are really really nice but the traffic into and through the towns is heavy during rush hour.

Classic dilemma: in town in a much smaller place and easier commute, or out of town in lovely rural village but traffic jams every day! Hitchin does indeed look lovely - just blinking expensive because of it of course! Thanks for you help 👍

I live in Pirton and commute to the rail station every day. It takes 15- 20 mins in rush hour (once you know the back route which takes you around the hitchin traffic!). Or the bus that takes you to the station is good, but infrequent.

The internet in Pirton is better than I had in London. I can have netflix on 2 different TVs and use the laptop on all at the same time with no buffering. And there's fibre internet that came to the village a few months ago but i dont have that, yet.

I know everyone got their first choice for secondary schools in the last application a few days ago. And its been like that the past few years.
