Which primary school in Southgate/Palmer's green?

Hi, we are looking to buy a house in "the lakes estate" in Southgate but have been dismayed that is seems to be a bit of a black hole for primary schools - I have two children 2.6y & newborn. We can't do the church attendance thing (for St Monica's) as we are not catholic.

I'd love some advice from anyone on here who knows the area - what do families do for school?!

Thanks!

Hi, I live in this area and have just made our application for Reception 2018. I'll know more when I get the results in April!

What I can tell you is that catchment varies each year and it also depends on what road you are looking at. For example, if you're looking at the roads closer to Palmers Green (eg Old Park Road, Grovelands) you're in with a good shot of getting into Hazelwood. If you are looking further up (eg Selborne, The Mall) you are in with a good shot of getting into Walker. In between this, it is a bit grey area.

Ashmole recently opened a new primary school and this really shook up the catchment areas in 2017, with Walkers extending dramatically. If this happens again this year, then it is a good sign of years to come.

My daughter is currently in the nursery at West Grove Primary School which a fair few lakes estates kids go to if they haven't managed to get into nearer schools. She absolutely loves it there but it is our 5th choice for primary schools as I am taking my chances on Walker/Ashmole/Hazelwood/Highfield first. This is because they are nearer so easier to walk to, and do better in results. There is also a newish school called Bowes Southgate Green, which is on the site of Broomfield School and is getting some good reports from parents whose kids go here.

This website can give you an idea of which roads have fallen into which catchment over the last few years: www.schoolcatchment.co.uk/

Hope this helps, good luck!

Hello, we are about to buy a property between Southgate and Palmer's green high street (at George's street). It looks like there is no catchment for primary school, only for Monica's RC primary school. However our boy is not catholic. Can anyone please advise about the primary schools situation in this area? Maybe someone already has gone through this problem. Thank you for any help!
