Application for primary school - Benefits letter

Hi all,

I just applied for a primary school place for my DD and only just noticed that Bromley council requires a Child benefit entitlement letter to process the application. We don't claim child benefit so don't have this (although now realised we probably should have and simply opt out). Has any of you applied without the letter or has been in the same situation as us? what did the council suggest?
I will call them but wondered if you could share your experience.

many thanks

You need to call and get the letter even if you aren't claiming the benefit or entitled to it. It doesn't take long to arrive.

@chibi110 We are having a similar issue with our application for Bromley schools this year - we have completed the online application but dont have the letter yet to attach to the form - we might get before 15th fingers crossed.

An automated email from Bromley Gov says you can send it after the deadline and that your application will be treated as on-time as long as you submite everything else before the deadline (which we have). However we are getting a bit jittery about it and wondering what happened with your application last year where I assume you had to submit without the letter at the due date?

Hi @sams1985 all went very smoothly in the end. I had to chase them up for the benefits letter (I sent the application form in January and received the confirmation in March) but I received it less than a couple of days after talking to them on the phone. I sent it to the Bromley school admission office with the application reference. It was indeed considered as on time and we got our first choice of school. Good luck!
