Hiya

Me and partner have found a very decent house in LS14 area located practically on border of LS14. Having looked on rightmove however outstanding schooling options are limited and we’re just at wits end about what to do.

The good primary schools that come up are Roundhay, Shadwell & beechwood. However when I look at the map they don’t cover the post code we’re in.

Anyone in the are who know of better schooling options or other schools (private) that would be close to area. Would appreciate any Leeds mom insight

Many thanks

You say on the ls14 border, border of what area? As ls14 covers a huge area, whinmoor, seacroft 🙈🙈
Richmond house ls16, otley Road, good school, not a million miles away (private)
Some of the schools in ls14 are a bit dicey but really depends whereabouts

I’m from the general area , LS14 is a very diverse postcode ; most of the more desirable schools are oversubscribed (look at the Leeds.gov.uk website Primary schools admission leaflet ) so if you’re not on the doorstep you won’t get a place at ie Roundhay or Shadwell. I should think Leeds grammar school at Alwoodley and Gateways at Harewood are the nearest private options.

Sorry 🙊🙈 Leeds is so big I forget
Well from the map it looks like Whinmoor; exact Road is Kingsmead drive LS14 to give a better idea. Right near the ring road

So do you think school options would be difficult?

Houses right near the best schools are almost 100k more. Or is it worth it to be in areas like Chapel Allerton/alwoodley/meanwood/roundhay?

I think school options would be harder, especially secondary. Your nearest would be David young or Leeds easy which personally I wouldn’t want to send my kid too. Primary wise I’m not sure really.
Alwoodley is my favourite out of the options you’ve given. Chap A is very trendy, good schools though. Meanwood is nice, has a big Waitrose.

Busy I used to live on Kingsmead Drive before I had kids and bought my own place.
Whinmoor St Paul's has a good reputation I think and you'd be very near

Thanks everyone. I actually called the 5 outstanding schools that came up on rightmove and all except Beechwood that chances of getting in were super slim. Just one school choice would be risky not to mention the Beechwood receptionist was so unhelpful it put me off.

If majority move to Alwoodley for schools there has to be a reason so we’re going to try our best there too 👍🏻

Our first house was very near kingsmeads our boys went to Thorner, which we are very happy with. But we have moved for high school's.

Most of the other primary schools are still ranked as good by ofsted. It seems to be the secondaries that are the issue.

Look at Thorner.
Also you're not that far from roundhay primary it's only wetherby road so I don't see why your not in the catchment area for that.
Even shadwell primary.
As for high schools. Look into tadcaster grammar. Boston spa has a bad rep now (know a lot of parents from there) and even just try roundhay you never know
