Diagnosis centres for Autism / ADHD

My son is under a Peadiatrician heading toward a possible diagnosis of Autism / ADHD.
He is a year behind at school. He struggles socially/ emotionally. He misinterprets social situations.

We have waited 2 years and have not gained a diagnosis. I am aware this is usual. However, he needs a diagnosis before we can move forward.

Can anyone recommend a private centre we could take our child to where he will be assessed by all the necessary professionals and reach a diagnosis Much more quickly. I have heard some centres will only take a day to reach a diagnosis.

We are not impatient, it's just that we can see that not having the diagnosis is preventing him gaining the support in and out of school. We really want to get this support in place now while he is still young.

I'm living abroad and my experience with my son was that it was somewhat easy. Thanks to Obamacare a lot of developmental paediatricians have left our area. I have had to scream and shout to get DD seen after 18 months of waiting. With DS his follow up appointments are very hard to schedule now so I drive from NYC to Philly, which is where a lot of the doctors moved to, for follow up appointments. I've been able to get DD in for next week by threatening to sue. She is now failing at school because she refuses to take assessments. I'm driving to new Haven CT which is over 2 hours each way.

Call daily, have others advocate for you and be willing to travel. London has many more specialists compared to the rest of the country and wealthier areas have shorter wait lists at least in America. I would assume the same holds true in the U.K.

Check places like alder hey and the main hospital in Cambridge has an excellent unit for autism.

It sounds like you have a big struggle on your hands as well. Your poor daughter, are the school not supportive?

Thank you for the advice. There are so many centres online, I wanted to find somewhere reputable.

I really hope your daughter gets what she needs to help her progress.

We have used Starjumpz in Kent not far from Tunbridge Wells and they have been excellent.

lovemykids Its difficult for the school to properly support her without a diagnosis. The laws put in place do allow for support without a diagnosis but the evaluation process is piecemeal and therapy goals are set by the school, not a neutral third party who is looking at the development of the whole child.
