Dear all, We are in the process of buying a newly built house in High Street of Ponders end in Enfield. I have never before lived in Enfield or any part of London. I have a son who is 5 and a daughter 6 months old. Could you please share any experience of yours that can help us to see what to expect. We are a professional indian couple, DH a software professional and I am a Dental Surgeon(not working atm).

Regads,

Lived here my whole life. Ponders End is not a nice place, sorry. You won't find many professional couples in Enfield who choose to live there, it is extremely run down and there is a lot of crime. It's geographically very close to Edmonton where there was a fatal shooting just last night. Craig's park (now called ponders end park) had some stabbings a few years ago where a young boy died. There was also a stabbing in the Tesco car park last month where a man was airlifted to hospital.

If you like Enfield ie zone 5 and proximity to tubes and trains etc, I'd recommend Oakwood.

I assume you are buying on the plot next to the mosque? It has a lot of restaurants and shops going for it but that's it.

Hi,

How far into the buying process are you? Is it definite or are you still able to change your mind?

It is true that there have been some stabbings in the area this summer, but ad far as I know this has now calmed down. Still, it isn't great of course. Have you looked into crime statistics for the area?

We live not too far from Ponders End but are on the other side of the A10 (near Bush Hill Park). Some people might say that ours is also a bit of a rough area in places; but we absolutely love living here. Our neighbours are great, and there have been a lot of new, young couples or families moving to this area recently.
I also like all the parks and green spaces in our area. Lots of parks, and also forty Hall and of course the Lea valley marshes etc.

What sort of stuff is your family into?
I also like Albany Leisure centre which isn't too far from Ponders End. It's the nicest pool in the area and they run swim classes for kids from birth.

Feel free to ask more questions.

Albany leisure centre is actually better than southbury despite its location. Cleaner and better organised.

Don't worry OP, if you can't back out then there are options to stay safer there. My SIL drives everywhere so that she doesn't have to walk down the high street and her son doesn't have to get the bus to school etc so less chance of muggings or being targeted by youths. They don't go to the Tesco as it isn't very clean but do drive down to the Asda? I think if you can drive it can definitely be workable?

Hi Guys,
What about living in EN2 0AG postcode area, Chase side areas? Is it good place to live? I have been looking for properties in this area, and the price seems to be affordable. But does not know much about the area as I live in Barnet.
