Advice on moving to Shinfield, Reading

We are thinking of buying a property in Shinfield, Reading. Do not have much idea about the area. Does it have a good community feel and does does it suit young families? Any good primary and secondary schools recommended? How are the bus services to Reading Central and how is the traffic during early morning?

Looked at new developments at Shinfield Meadows and quite liked it. Anyone lives near by or already living there ?
Please pour your experience..

I realise this is a bit late, but I've recently moved out of shinfield.
I found here to be very little to do with a young family and absolutely no where within walking distance. They are building a shed lid of houses through sonhopefully that will come with things to do, but I doubt it.
The primary school has historically been a bit pants but is on the up now after a huge investment. The local secondary has recently got a good ofsted rating, though it's very new. You are in a joint catchment with a few other schools including the brand new Bohunt school which is apparently amazing. The bus links to reading are excellent. Traffic into reading by car in the morning is hideous, but if you go by bike its fine and perfectly do able.

Proper shinfield is fine. Although mainly new houses now and I'm not sure about the infrastructure such as doctors and local shops etc.

We used to live in shinfield village just off of the green and loved the primary school and junior school. We then moved to Earley and don't regret it.

We've now moved again to Woodley and I like being closer to facilities such as the shops and good parks etc.

I would not discount the area but perhaps check out local Facebook groups for information on what is avalaible and how accessible reading town centre is.

I don't normally venture over this side of town but had to bring my car to the Ford garage on Basingstoke road and once I got to the reading side of town traffic was horrendous. So I'd make sure that the bus had a bus lane route to avoid sitting in a hot overcrowded bus for potentially over an hour each way.
