Hi all. I've had an email from MNHQ asking me (and likely others) to post to try to get the local boards going - just wondering if there was much point as not a lot seems to happen on here!

I'm here but not sure about how to get the most out of local site from the main app?? Any clue? Bit time and memory consuming to go between the two separately like I have just now.

That's what I've just done - would like to think they'll add a tab or something if they're trying to get this kicked off as I will forget, all the juicy stuff is over there at the moment! Ha ha

I'm here and got the email from MNHQ too! It would be really nice to have a more active local site, but Cumbria is such a big place that on the rare occasion someone posts on here, they seem to be from miiiiiles away from me. So meet-ups and help with local info aren't very doable. On the one hand maybe dividing it into areas of Cumbria might be good, but on the other hand that might make for even fewer posters to each area! Dunno really. grin

I'm guessing that's why it's such a large area - not enough posters to divide it up! Would be nice to have a chat with local people though. Where are you guys from? I'm Carlisle area...

We have a small dispersed population and crap transport links so Cumbria as a whole isn't going to work well on one board. Though not enough to split up either.

I'm in the south

Morning. Also Carlisle. I think there are quite a few in Penrith.

TheCumbrian Mon 17-Jul-17 23:52:59

Yeah I'm here and Penrith ish. I have a lot of connections with South Lakes as well though.

I reckon there are a lot of Cumbrian lurkers. Yes it's a huge county but in the individual rural/farming areas particularly you could probably narrow someone down to about 2 - 3 families based on what they post. Hopefully the ability to name change now will help!

Someone posted about moving to Bolton near Appleby recently for example but didn't get a response. Anyone who does know the area well is hardly going to pop up on a thread for such a small area under their usual name are they!

Perhaps it would be helpful to start individual threads for the 3 areas to start off with with people posting just basic lists of attractions/ activities, places etc that they recommend just to build up a database that local mods can possibly build on. That might lead to other conversations starting to occur?

I've a local username , does everyone not have one?

Eolian Tue 18-Jul-17 08:25:01

Lurkers, you reckon? Come out all you lurkers!
I don't have a local username, Wetoopere. I recognise yours though. Might you have been one of the helpful people on my thread 3 years ago when I was moving to the area (South Lakes)? I might have been called Holmessweetholmes at that point.

daisygirlmac Tue 18-Jul-17 09:17:44

Morning! I'm South Lakes, I think TheCumbrian has a good idea with some threads for each wider area listing groups etc.

Waves from somewhere near Cockermouth.

I have checked this board sporadically, but as other people have mentioned, most of the posts requesting meet ups are usually miles away from me.

Waves from somewhere near Whitehaven!

I've only just joined but think it would be cool to have local chatter.

Wetoopere Tue 18-Jul-17 17:23:06

Yes I think I was on that thread!

Eolian Tue 18-Jul-17 20:57:43

I thought so! Well thanks for any advice you gave at the time. Very happy here!

Oh didn't know I was a lurker until now! Good to see this thread going.

We are in the north here with links to Carlisle and Brampton. :-)

bakingmad83 Wed 08-Nov-17 20:32:29

I'm near Whitehaven. Keep forgetting to check into the local board.

Hi from Carlisle. I'm new on mums net just yesterday. Single mum to a five month old and don't have many friends in the area - don't have any with children. Would be good to meet some people. Someone said there's a hidden thread for single mums - what's the point in that? I thought mums net was about support, not secret groups fsad

KendalMintCakey Tue 12-Dec-17 19:22:32

Hi from Kirkby Stephen x

KendalMintCakey Tue 12-Dec-17 19:23:15

Hidden ... why? Are single Mums less acceptable. Love Carlisle it's a brill city
