Advice on moving to Tarporley

Hi. I'm new to mumsnet so I hope I'm posting in the right place... my husband and I, and our 3 little ones are relocating to Cheshire, and we are thinking about Tarporley.

We are all a little nervous about the aspect of relocating and leaving friends behind, and so we need somewhere welcoming and friendly. We want a large village location as this is what the girls have been used to, and I like being able to walk everywhere, like schools, bars, coffee shops etc.

Does anyone have experience of relocating to Tarporley that they could share and help us decide if this is the right place for us?

Thanks x

Hello and welcome to the Cheshire pages! Tarporley is a lovely village, with Chester the nearest city. It does lots of bars and coffee shops, and good schools. My best advice would be to go and spend some time there, chat to other Mums at the playground, talk to people in coffee shops. I did this when we first moved to Knutsford from London about13 years ago, it's where I go all my knowledge from! I will tweet and Facebook this out for you, see what other on the ground knowledge we can get for you.

Tarporley is lovely. A really nice village. We almost moved there ourselves but there is one rather frustrating problem. The motorway closest to Tarporley is assessed at the top of a long and very busy road. Depending on where you are looking for work, this could be an issue although we didn't look too far into it because that is the only road into the city and would add a good 20-30 mins to any journey.

Oh luckylucky24 that's interesting, is that the road that bypasses Nantwich and joins the M6? Where did you decide to go instead?

It's called tarvin road. And leads to the A55/6 I think then onto m53.
We moved to a new build estate in Huntington, just outside the city. It feels quite rural as it backs into fields and country lanes but is only 10 minutes from the city centre.

Hi, we are also looking at doing the same from South West London. Does anyone have any advice on commuting from this area into Manchester? My parents live near Weaverham but I think I am going to be working in the city centre and so am a bit stuck on areas which would be commutable. It will be me doing pick up and drop off but I think we will have to have a wrap around nanny or something to allow me to get to work. My daughter is 3 and I am expecting in October. Any help would be gratefully received. Thanks!

Hi Elletwelve. We have looked into this quite a bit, and Crewe is the main train line, with the fastest transfer to Manchester at 40mins (ish). Crewe is around 25mins from Tarporley. If you want to be closer to Manchester, perhaps Altrincham, or Alderley Edge might be of interest?

That said, Tarporley does seem lovely, and if you do end up moving there, look me up and we can be newbies together! 😬

We are in the same boat. Looking at relocating to Tarporley from within the M25. It does look lovely. Eldest DS is 8 so we're looking ahead to secondary school and the teenage years. It's a plus that Tarporley is large enough to have a secondary school, that should mean that it will be possible to build up a good network of school friends close by and have a pleasant walk to school without too much traffic to contend with.

What is it like for teens in the village? Is there anything for them to do or are they reliant on bus / lifts to Chester for everything?

What is it like for activities for primary aged children, e.g. sports clubs, dance classes etc, are there good quality activities available in the village or close by? or is that another trip to Chester!?

is traffic a problem when trying to get from Tarporley to Chester?

TIA
