What's it like to live in Skellingthorpe?

We are looking to move areas within Lincolnshire and Skellingthorpe seems a good location for us but just checked the crime rates and they seemed quite high? 8 violent and sexual crimes in one month!?

That's quite surprising because I am sure we would have heard about that level of crime in the local news. Skellingthorpe is quite a quiet village as far as I can tell, we like the park there after a trip to Daisy Made for ice cream.

I'm a couple of miles from there and never heard of such crimes.

I wonder if they're domestic crimes rather than street crimes?

Nice park, woods to walk round, cycle path, schools are good I think.

I did think maybe they'd be the sort of thing that happened behind closed doors but still seems alot. Other people have said it's a nice place but as with everywhere there's probably not so nice bits. Think we are going to go with a smaller village now Smile

Skellingthorpe is fine, not aware of it being the crime capital of Lincs! Tbh, any of the surrounding villages are fine in that sense. If it was me, I'd look more at what facilities there are because a lot of places there isn't very much going on round here... Also check internet speed!

Saxilby has a bit more going on and it's handy to have a train station.

Note the part of Lincoln nearest Skellingthorpe called Birchwood is, let's say, patchy!

Skellingthorpe is a nice enough place but it smells so bad!!! Also, that part of the A46 can be horrendously busy during rush hour etc so although it's close to bypass links you probably won't get anywhere fast...

We've been in Skelly over 3 years, I'm a bit taken aback at those crime stats as I personally wasn't aware of any of those crimes (and this is a small village where everyone knows everybody else's business). Odd.

It doesn't necessarily smell, either, unless you're downwind of the factory place. Which at least half of the village isn't - we're not, we drive through the smell sometimes if I leave via Jerusalem, but it's not a constant smell anyway.

I rarely go via A46, I use backroads if it's anywhere near rush hour.

We've been happy here, we're moving to Saxilby shortly, though, mostly cos we can get more for our money house-wise, plus it has more going on for the kids, and the train station is a major plus for me as I have to go into London for work fairly frequently.

Birchwood: agree with pp, be careful which part you head for. My parents have lived their 10 years in a perfectly nice, quiet part. But just a few streets away is a different story.

I live not far from skellingthorpe and never have heard of crimes going on there really. Me and my little girl love a trip to daisy maid and then go to the park there as it's lovely! Seems to be a quiet village where everyone knows everyone!
We also looked to move here before moving to the house we are currently in!
