Moving to Liverpool

Hi

My ds has been offered a place in Blue Coat, Wavertree. Can someone help with areas please? Ideally I would love to be in walk-able distance to school. Is Wavertree good place to live? I heard Sefton park is good.

Can someone advise please?

Hi ishi, I'm not far from Bluecoat. Wavertree is nice but some parts are better than others. The Sefton park/L17 area is nice. The L18/ Calderstones/ Allerton/ Mossley Hill areas are lovely. It depends on your price range and the type of house you're looking for really. Any more questions, ask away!

Hi, we live in Wavertree, not too far from the school. As the pp mentioned, some parts are nicer than others.
I agree, the places pp mentioned are quite nice
(I'm not from here btw, but I genuinely do love living here)

Hi, I've got one child at the school and the other starting in Sept. We are in Mossley Hill. From door to door it's about a half hour walk but DS has a bus pass. Where will you be moving from? That really will set you housing budget, I presume. If you're coming from London you'll find everything a lot cheaper.

Prices have started to go a bit silly though I've noticed recently. Overpriced, some houses, in my opinion, especially around Calderstones Park.

I've also noticed that what used to be considered working class terraced streets are now becoming "gentrified", with dual income professional families buying there. it's not great for people who are not in professional incomes.

We live in L17 and love it. Our kids are small and it's a great place to live with little kids. Lots of Wavertree is sound, I don't know what house prices are like as we rent but we were considering living around Penny Lane before our last move - cheaper than Aigburth and very close to Sefton Park. We only stuck with Aigburth as we don't drive so we wanted to stay close to the train line.

My main concern about Wavertree would it being a bit studenty so potentially a bit noisy and prone to break ins but it's not a bad area at all.

L18 is lovely but well out of our price range and not as convenient if you don't drive.

Blue coat is a great school.
Ideally L18 - lots of areas are more affordable there now, also L19, a bit further away but more affordable with direct regular bus routes to Blucoat (Allerton Road) lots of regeneration and affordable homes being built atm.
L15, some areas really lovely, some can be a bit studenty - which is part of the charm but a bit of a pain in the arse when they're singing and nicking your hanging baskets at 3am

Big hello everyone

We are moving from London. Dh has a new role in Liverpool hence the move. My cousin lives in Warrington and she managed to convince us about lesser commute and better work life balance.
I am really glad to know Blue Coat is a good school. Originally we are from India. We are a bit confused whether to go for rent initially or buy. Once we move I have to look for a new role. We want to live in Liverpool so ds can attend clubs and walk or take a bus home.

So you aren't going to be too far away from your cousin then so that's great. Just a quick car journey.

If you can get a trip up, take a walk down Allerton Road. The vast majority of estate agents for the south of Liverpool are along there (both rental and buying)
I can recommend Move Residential. They are slightly pricier than some of the others, but very proactive in pushing sales forward. We've used them a few times now.

I always like the theory of renting first, but it's such an arse to contemplate having to move all over again when you want to buy.

The great thing about the areas I think you'll be looking at are they all have good public transport links.
You can be in the city centre in 20 mins.

What kind of clubs / interests does DS have? Near Bluecoat they have an athletics centre and huge swimming pool / leisure centre.

It's easy to forget how fabulous a place is when you live there until you have to think about it from an outside perspective.

If you could afford it you could always try and find a short term 6 month furnished rental and put most of your stuff in storage while you're deciding on where you actually want to buy. I don't think I would ever buy a house where I really had no experience of the area, if I could possibly avoid it.

I agree renting first is better option. My cousin lives in Penketh. Her kid would be travelling to Blue coat (in a cab share). We did the ride ourselves and it takes around 20 mins. If we live in Penketh I am worried ds will have to finish school without attending any school clubs and rush home. Whereas if we live local he will be able to attend the school clubs and walk home.

Outside school he goes for Karate and swimming. At the moment my travelling time in London is a hour each side. I am so excited about the move :-) and a bit nervous as well. This is the only conversation me and dh seem to have these days.

Wow, did you do the taxi ride from penketh to Bluecoat in morning rush hour? It takes a lot longer than 20 mins, I'd say! I would not want my child to travel from that far away, it would be one of the furthest distances that pupils in my sons' year travel.

I'm sure you will love Bluecoat. There are lots of Indian families. If yoUr son has passed the entrance exam then he is clearly bright enough to enjoy being challenged there. All the kids want to achieve. They WANT to learn. Behaviour is really good because of this - they all are like little sponges in their lessons listening to the teachers. The teachers don't know they're born ha ha!

And Penketh is.....how shall I put this....not exciting. Liverpool is a fantastic, modern and vibrant city with a real buzz these days.

There are loads of southerners moving here. Am starting to think us locals will be outnumbered soon ha ha!

I've lived in London too for a few years so do understand where you are coming from in terms of your dislikes about it. There is a better work life balance here, it's true.

I want to ask you couple of things about Bluecoat. They have a parents evening on 26th june and induction day on 05th july. I am thinking since we ll be coming from London it's easier to just go for induction day so ds gets feel of school day and skip parents evening. Since u have a ds there I am counting on your opinion. What do you think?
We ll renting for now. So we are hoping to book few appointments while ds has his induction day.

Does any one suggest commuting from Warrington area to Blue Coat school on daily basis for my 7yr old? Is there any local bus transport available during school timings?
