Moving to Kendal

Hi lovely ladies.
We have fallen in love with a house in Kendal and thinking of moving to the area from South Manchester.
We have a 7 year old and 4 year old.
Where do start with schools? Most of them are CofE but we are not religious. Do all the faith schools require 'faith'?
Also thoughts on the weather....is it really that wet? Any other advice or thoughts on living in the area would be much appreciated.
Eeekkkk
Thanks

Hi! It's a bit quiet on this local board but there are a few of us around. I have an 8 yo and an 11 yo and moved here (15 mins from Kendal) 2.5 years ago, from down south. It's a lovely area and we love it here. The CofE primary schools absolutely do not require faith of any kind. We are staunch atheists and my dc have been very happy in their lovely church primary!

I don't know much about the primaries in Kendal, but am well-placed to find out, as dh and I are both teachers. Feel free to pm me if you want the low-down on any specific ones. I can also tell you plenty about the secondaries if you're looking ahead. I go into Kendal a lot, so equally feel free to ask anything about the town and surroundung area. I'm no local expert, but I might be some help!

Oh sorry, forgot you asked about the weather. Ummm... it's a bit on the damp side Grin. If you're moving to Kendal itself, check flood records carefully for the house/street/area you're considering. It does rain a lot here, but it's fine, honest!

Weather no different to Manchester.

Lots of good schools. My two went to CofE primary and cofe secondary not into religion here.

Cracking area to live and work.

Stramongate Primary school isn't CoE. It's a County Primary...they used to take us along to the Church but I always felt that killed a few hours for them ...

Also Ghyllside isn't religious. You will need to be in catchment for a place tho...

Hi
Did you move? Hope you are settled if you have. Yes it rains quite a bit but when it doesn't it's just beautiful with so many fantastic things for children to do.
My children are secondary age so can't advise on primary but a recently qualified teacher I know has worked in quite a few local ones and she just loved Hutton Roof. Just out of Kendal so might not be an option. She also likes Stramongate.
Good luck with the move .

Hello! New to mumsnet and this is my first post so apologies in advance if I am being rude posting here like this! Myself, dh and ds are looking to relocate to Kendal from Liverpool in the new year. Ds is in year 4 and I am a primary teacher. I would really appreciate any advice on schools. I am thinking Kirbie Kendal looks like a great secondary for ds but unable to find the catchment area for this. Thank you!
