2017 Feeling Lonely

Anybody on here? Can only see old posts! Am 35, married & a Mum of two. Used my career as a diversion in life and now find Im lacking in mates. My best friends are all male & now we all have families, rarely see each other. My new baby was very much wanted & we waited a long old time for him. Now he is here, I have the time on my hands to re-evaluate my life. Im feeling quite lonely and a stupid fool for using my career as a crutch whilst I faced the pain of infertility. Looking at starting a exercise class... feel as though my options are really limited. How do you start to make friends in your mid-30's?

Hello,
I'm still here :) Where abouts on the Island are you? Totally understand the feeling on lonliness - even in such a small place it is easy to feel a bit left out sometimes.

Hi Mango5!!
I don't live in the island yet- I actually live in Australia but will be moving there at the end of this year. I'm super nervous because I am leaving lots of friends here and I don't know anyone over there. It is so difficult to make friends in your 30s (well I'm actually 40 now) and I don't know if I will be able to. where in the isleandnare you? I'm also worried about getting the kids into good schools!!

Hi, I live on the island too - moved here nearly 5 years ago (although have been visiting family here for over 20!) with my husband and 3 children. I don't have many friends on the Island, and those I do have have been formed through work - I was lucky enough to get a job in a school less than a year after moving here. It IS hard to make friends wherever you move to. Could you join some toddler groups? When I had my eldest dd (now 16!!) I found the friends I made when I went to the local toddler group to be some of the best and longest friendships I've ever had (we moved when dd1 was 3 months old to a completely new area so I know exactly how you feel!) It takes a while to find your feet when you move somewhere completely new, but see what's available in your local area (where abouts are you - I'm in Sandown?) and be brave!!
