Would love to hear your opinions on what's great to do this Christmas 2016 in & around Cambridge. Nothing on this thread to be sponsored or paid for - just activties actually done by families in Cambridge.

I'll try and get the really good ones listed and shared to Cambridge Mumsnetters

If you have pre-schoolers or young children, it has to include a trip to Scotsdales garden centre in Great Shelford to see the bears and the lights. We love the family carol service at St Matthews Church too. And the Anglesey Abbey lights are fantastic for all ages but you have to book them in July!

Fracture your wrist on the ice-skating rink on Parkers Piece?

My DC are desperate to go ice skating, but I'm not sure if DH and I can face it. So for free activities, we are probably going to walk from Cambridge to Grantchester on Boxing Day to arrive in time to watch the barrel racing.

It's not cheap, but the Arts Theatre panto is very good!

I'm lurking. My SIL is coming down next week (which means DH will vanish!) so there will be me and SIL, plus DS1 (9) DS2 (7) DNiece1 (12) and DNiece2 (10) to entertain.
I really need to find something we can all do. DN1 is usually glue to her iphone.

Another vote for the Arts Theatre panto - enjoyed by all of us incl 13yr old on Saturday. Follow with pizza at Zizzi's just opposite.

Ice skating is fun, especially if you've got older DC or teens. (You can avoid skating yourself if you want if they're over 10) There's also a few funfair rides there.

And I think Wednesday is the late night shopping night with carol singers etc

The family theatre at the Junction is always outstanding, makes a nice change from traditional panto. This year it's Beauty and the Beast:

The Beauty and the Beast panto is indeed fantastic (nearly sold out but we'll with booking if you can). Teenage dd was sceptical when she saw all the much younger children cramming in, but was hooked from the first note of the (live) double bass.
