Thinking of moving to Prestwick

Hello - DH and I currently live in East Dunbartonshire with our
DD. She's due to start school this summer. We both work on Glasgow and are keen to move further out for a bit more lifestyle balance. We currentlThanks crawl through traffic for ages each day to go a fairly short distance to work. We are in a stupidly expensive area on a nice but teeny house which we're bursting at the seams in. I'm originally from further South West than Prestwick but it seems like a good balance distance wise and we'd get a lot more for our money there. Can anyone give me any advice on

  1. whether the primary schools are good and if Prestwick Academy is?

  2. if it's generally a nice, safe place to live

  3. any experience of commuting to Glasgow

  4. availability of childcare - childminder/before or after school club?

Sorry for all the questions but it's a huge move for us as we've been where we are for 10yrs. I miss the sea, would like a quieter house when not at work but don't want my daughter to go to a bad school. I went to a pretty poor school and we're currently catchment for an excellent school but pay an obscene price for being here! Any guidance very welcome. We've thought about Troon but Prestwick town centre seems a lot nicer or is it just me?!

Hi ,
Prestwick and Troon are super places, beach/shops/safe,don't know much about the schooling I work in Troon and friendliest place around, lots of groups on for kids daily. Childminders are plenty. Lots of people move to Troon and would never move from it.There is train station to Glasgow. Would pick Troon over Prestwick myself.
Good luck whatever you decide 🤔

Bit late to the thread but agree with PP. I would definitely pick Troon over Prestwick.
We actually originally moved to Prestwick with family while we house hunted.. lived there 4 months and then bought in Troon.

I feel like Prestwick is just a commuter town, it just has one main street and you can just drive right on through it to Ayr.
Troon has much more of a town centre and having lived here for the past 5 years I think there is a lovely community feel about the place.

Feel free to PM me if you want pointing towards some playgroups/mother toddler classes etc. Smile

I live in Prestwick and would personally pick Prestwick over Troon. Schools in Prestwick are all very good as is the Academy.
Good range of housing, you will definately get more for your money in Prestwick. The town definately very much has a heart, the main street is lovely with a fab selection of shops. It is a bit smaller than Troon, but that's precisely why I prefer it.

Commuting into Glasgow is easy and quick, either by train or bus.
