Moving to Thornbury. Nervous.

Hi I'll be moving to Thornbury in the New Year and would like to know what the area is like for making friends. I am moving from quite a close community that is involved with the village school where most people are pretty friendly. I'm worried whether I'll get the same in Thornbury? Or similar at least? I would also like to know about Crossways Junior School and St Mary's? As I have a child who will need to go into year 3. Are there clubs for boys? Football, swimming etc. and what areas should we avoid or aren't desirable as such. I'm So nervous!

I don't live in Thornbury so can't help with school, but we go there weekly for an activity. The town does have a community feel and people are generally friendly, so I don't think you need to worry on that score.

It's a small town and from what I can see there are no desirable/not desirable areas as such. It's an expensive place to live and is seen as quite desirable generally, so I would think you'll be OK wherever you go.

Bear in mind that a lot of Bristol kids travel into Thornbury for secondary school, so you might not want to be on a school route, so far as traffic is concerned.

There is a leisure centre on the edge of the town, with a pool, and this page gives you info on kid's clubs

Crossways has a good reputation as far as I know and is known to be a very good school. I like the feel of it, I have worked there, and the teaching is good. Lots of people move to thornbury for the good schools and the town itself is small but upmarket.

I live in Thornbury.Grew up here, worked away and then came back when I had my son.All the local schools are good.St Mary's has a really academic focus and Crossways is large but has a really good reputation and results too.
There is masses going on for all ages. Sports clubs, swimming lessons and clubs, tennis club, after school activities, youth club in the local Baptist Church....honestly, there is so much to do.
There are not any bad areas of Thornbury, although the Castle side of the town is considered particularly desirable .Most people try to live within walking distance of the primary ,so that might help you decide which you choose. Loads of adult clubs and societies too, gyms, walking clubs etc
Everybody here is very welcoming :)
