HELP - baby observation

Dear parents,

I am an M7 student at The Tavistock & Portman NHS Foundation Trust and Islington inhabitant who is seeking a family who will be expecting a baby shortly and who would be willing to have me as an observer. As part of my course, MA in Psychoanalytic Observational Studies, I need to carry out a weekly hour-long observation of a baby at home in his/her family, from birth for two years.

The purpose of understanding a baby observation as part of a Tavistock course is to help students learn about very early development and the baby’s growing relationships from the direct experience of observing, as well as to help learn about the observer role. Students take baby observations to learn and by any means evaluate or judge anyone`s parental skills.

I have had an enhanced Criminal Record Bureau Check and can show you a letter from the Tavistock confirming that I am on a Tavistock course. The course administrator will also be available to ask any questions parents might have.

There is no obligation to agree to an observation, of course. If parents do agree then the observation is carried out on the basis of careful confidentiality. If you think you might be interested or would like to find out more, please contact me through this site or my email [email protected] to find out more. There is no obligation if you decide that you do not want to take part.

Thank you and kind regards,
Catarina
