NEW COMPETITION! Win tickets to Magical Lantern Festival Birmingham

MNBirminghamLocalEd · 09/11/2016 13:56

We have teamed up with Magical Lantern Festival Birmingham to celebrate an event filled with culture, light and sculpture.

We are offering a couple of lucky readers the chance to win a family ticket to attend the Magical Lantern Festival, which is being held at Birmingham Botanical Gardens from 25th November to 2nd January.

After experiencing great success with the first festival last year in London, the event will now transform Birmingham Botanical Gardens with eye-catching lanterns that will engage all of your senses. You will enter through a 12-metre wide lantern entrance, before following a stunning trail around the gardens. From Santa and his reindeers to flowers and animals, these giant lanterns will light up the beautiful ponds, woodland, gardens and pathways of the Birmingham attraction.

If you are one of the lucky winners, you will receive a family ticket for a night of your choice*! This will allow two adults and two children (4 – 16 years) to come along for a night that should not be missed.

To enter, answer the following question on the thread below by midday on Sunday November 20th:

What Christmassy activity will you be doing with your family this year?

  • Dates between November 25th and January 2nd are subject to availability. Mumsnet T&Cs apply. The editor reserves the right to redraw the prize if we don't hear from a winner within 14 days.

Hello Mumsnet.. This is my first message!
The Magical Lanterns look amazing..
Hopefully, the Christmassy activity we'll be doing as a family this year is sledging, snowballing and building snowmen with all this snow we have been promised..! Wishful thinking! x

Well, welcome! Why not enter our other competition for The Bear at mac birmingham, while you're here? And we'll soon have tickets for The Snowman and Room on a Broom at Birmingham Rep to give away soon (we're feeling very generous this Christmas!).

Ooh that does look good.

We have a family tradition of going to the Christmas tree festival at Lichfield cathedral. Lots of local businesses and groups decorate trees and then you buy tokens to vote for your favourite, which raises money for the Cathedral. We always buy a new ornament for our tree when we're there and go to a cafe for a nice warm drink. I love the run up to Christmas!

We're going to Thomas' Magical Christmas at Drayton Manor as DD loves trains.

Hopefully we'll also be able to build snowmen, have snowball fights and go sledging as I don't think she's ever seen snow but I doubt it somehow.

We've booked the santa steam train with seven valley for the first time. I think the kids will love it.

Can I just ask about the lantern festival - you don't mention under 4's, it's that because they don't pay or is it not suitable for the little ones?

Now this explains the piles of stuff the kids have been gawping at in the Botanics car park when I park there for swimming lessons next door!

Anyway, I think I shall be carrying on the tradition of taking them into town to the German market after they finish school early on the last day of term. Hot chocolate with marshmallows (for them), Gluhwein (for me), delicious poffertjes (Dutch flying saucer pancakes) with nutella for all, and a ride on the carousel! Probably not ice skating as DS1 still has rods and pins in his arm from when he broke it early this year.....

As well as celebrating Christmas we will also be celebrating Hannukah, the festival of LIGHT! So it will be the kids endlessly rearranging tree decorations by day then eating doughnuts, lighting candles and sharing small gifts at night.

As dd turns two soon, we have a trip to see Santa and if she isn't keen on that bit it includes a ride on a stean train and she's currently train mad! We are going with my parents and will be their first Chistmasy thing with a grandchild.

We'll also be thinking of some nice traditions of our own to start at home.

We will be going to see Father Christmas at Sealife, to see panto and to see Warwick Castle at Christmas. We might also manage some ice skating in Birmingham. Would love to add magical lanterns to the list.

Fab, the kids would love this show. A visit to the German markets each year for a sausage bap is a must. Plus shopping and lots of turkey and food with the family!

We are going to see Santa's show at the Snowdome. We will most likely also go to the German Market to ride on "the horsies that go round and round."

We'll be attending carols by candlelight at church. I love singing all the classic carols, listening to the nine Bible readings and remembering the first Christmas.
