Hello, my son is starting reception year next September 2016 and I'm wondering what parent's opinions are on Edgebury, Redhill, Mead Road and St Nicholas? Please kindly advise if you have a moment. Thank you

I know from parents that Redhill is a very good school. Bickley as well. Not familiar with the others. My DC go to Scotts Park and there are a lot of parents from Chislehurst and Bickley there.

Scotts Park's Ofstead is not great. However the area is great and the school is pulling up, you can check the results from last year. Bickley and Red Hill have excellent reputation.

Red Hill's latest Ofsted isn't great either.
However, I wouldn't go by Ofsted. By all means read the whole report but don't just look at the scores.
Edgebury had a satisfactory Ofsted once and it lasted for about a year and a half or something like that. So that gives you an idea of what Ofsted can mean if you're looking at being in the school for the next 7 years.

I believe St Nicholas is very hard to get to. Do you go to Church every weekend and help out with the Church in any way?

Sorry for the multiple messages. I just keep remembering things.

I think people are very happy in Mead Road but it's an issue that you then need to find somewhere to transfer to.

I went to the Open Day in Bickley and it seemed fine but the catchment is small if you are in Chislehurst.

I have heard very good things about St nicholas and mead Road. My niece and nephew went to both transferring to St nicholas at yr 3. I do believe that red hill is a feeder school for mead Road as they have extra spaces in yr 3 to accommodate some children from mead Road but not sure on how many spaces are offered however I'm sure that Bromley must have planned out feeder schools for mead Road children to transfer to, to avoid children to be left without a school place within close proximity

We live very near these schools. Edgebury is the furthest from us, at 0.9 miles, and the others are all less than that. A few years ago, our next door neighbour applied, and got Mottingham Primary, which is further away than any of them, so unless you live very close to them, you may not get a place, anyway.

Thank you so much for your feedback, I appreciate your opinions l :-)

I visited St Nicholas and although I attend church and am religious I wasn't very impressed with the school facilities and hope not to offend anyone but the open day didn't fill me with confidence on a few things. Also the playground "the pit" doesn't have a gate, fence and is a public area- for me I wouldn't feel uneasy with these things. Again this is my personal opinion and I know everyone has different preferences so I hope not to offend anyone :-)

Yes I agree with the ofsted remark and although Redhill is satisfactory I am visiting next week and I know a few parents who have kids there and are happy, I also visited Edgebury and was impressed with the children's work but I think I'm out of catchment for that. It's very true that I could apply for Chislehurst schools but be given a school off my list in a different area because schools are so over subscribed!

Thanks again for your advise x

I believe St nicholas are moving to another site although not sure where in Chislehurst and I think they are expanding too hence the move to a bigger site

In Bromley's latest report looking at new school options it includes a site in Chislehurst for a new Catholic secondary school amongst others.
